Question
All MDB files going to 0 KB??

I'm having a problem on one of my clients servers. He called me the one day and said that all his .MDB (database) files were set to 0 kb. He had no clue how it happened. I went to the office and ran a virus scan and it found a TON of word viruses. It didn't find nothing else. The way he found this out was that his Backup Exec couldn't find any of the catalog files (because the DB was empty). So I fixed this by copying a file off of the backup exec cd and it fixed that problem. Well it happened again with all the DB's going to 0Kb with the client now knowing how it happened. I've never heard anything like this and wondered if anyone else knew or heard this happen before.

Thanks

What virus scanner did you use? This does sound like a virus and your client should not be running any server without a good virus scanner. I would also suggest that you scan all P.C's that are accessing this server.

a file server with no virus scanner

users LOVE to put virus filled documents on network shares!
unfortunately
He should get a good email scanner as well, as I'm sure many of them get in through there.

I totally agree with EVERYTHING that you both posted... I feel the same way although this company is not controlled by us... I used the free Grisoft AVG antivirus software.. Thanks for the info...
