| Getting WinXP Home Ed. to logon to a NT network
I guess what I need is what the subject says
This for my new laptop with WinXP Home Ed. I need it to logon to a NT domain network. However I cannot find out where to have it join the domain. I have checked how Win2k does it and Win98 but nothing there pans out. Anyone have any ideas.??

check out surreal's thread - personally I've found that the in-install wizard in xp should take care of it if you follow win2k groundrules.
more info on the set-up might help those who know

Just a suggestion... Click on the System icon in Control Panel in XP. The default workgroup name on NT is "WORKGROUP" and default in XP is "MSHOME". Perhaps that's where you might be having problems?
And just one more thing... You'll have to disable the XP firewall to have access to other systems on the network. You can disable it by right clicking on the network icon and then going to the Advanced Tab. I haven't found a way to have access to other systems on the network with the firewall enabled... And then again, I'm not a network guru either!

Sure there is...
Go to Control Panel\System\Computer Name\ and then click on the Change button. |

One of the features that XP Pro has tha XP home does is to be able to be on an NT Domain.
As a XP Home user, you cannot get on a domain. |

Look it up at MS.com.
Im 100% positive its true, but I dont have time right now to find a link for you (gotta run to class).
Thier mentality is that a Home user wont need to log onto a domain. |
