XP upgrade or XP full

ok, I am buying Windows XP in the next 2 weeks...is there a difference between the upgrade and the full edition? I have WindowsME now and the upgrade version(Home) is only about $10 cheaper than the full version(Home). Are there any advantages with going with the full release?

With the full you can format the drive to NTFS(if you care), instead of installing it in fat32 and then converting it later which may cause some problems.

I bought the XP upgrade, had no problems with it,even doing the conversion to NTFS from FAT 32.The only thing is I have to install 98 and then upgrade each time I reformat.
Or maybe I'm not doing something right

Well the disadvantage of the upgrade is that you must already have an OS on your computer to install that OS. So which means is that if you run into a problem and have to format your HD the upgrade pretty much wont be good unless you have a full version of the old OS. So best to buy the Full XP then the upgrade. I for one would never want to go through the hassle Of waiting for one OS to install then Install the Upgrade on top of that will take for ever. Especially it takes atleast an hour to install an OS

I have Xp Home upgrade. I can do a clean install of XP , all it does is ask for a previous microsoft windows product. When it does this I just insert my ME disk or my 98 disk , it checks to verify that I have a previous windows product and then says to re-insert the XP disk and it continues the install. Save the ten bucks and get the upgrade if you have a previous windows install disk like 95 , 98 , ME , 2000. But thats my .02.

That's the way it has worked for me in the past.

same here. it is supposed to work like that. I would return mine and get my money back if i had to reinstall the previous version before XP.

I'll go against the tide here and recommend the full version. My thinking is it's easier to re-install XP if you don't have to upgrade and you can sell your license to ME for more than $10 (though probably not by much). Still, it seems like you'd be paying more for less if you get the Home edition.

Both upgrade and full editions are exactly the same except that in the upgrade version, during the setup routine it asks to insert a qualifying product, unless you are actually upgrading from an installed version of windows.

If you feel that its too much trouble to insert your ME disk, then buy the full version. Another advantage would be that you could sell the ME for more than $10.

This has already been stated above and I am just endorsing their posts.
