not to take away from the problem though...
I really can't think of anything but the monitor that would cause that much EMI, and I really don't think that there is anything that would change from OS to OS but refresh rate. Did you try turning the monitor off while you were booted into linux and see if the cat door still did it's thing?
I am totally dumbfounded!!!!

Sorry for the flip remarks...
I really just thought this was a joke!
(I'm actually still ROTFLMAO over this one. )
You might be sending RF's over the power lines. Try plugging an UPS in the line, if you don't have one now. Even if the cat door doesn't run off the mains, they could be acting as an antenna.
Also, I'd try shielding the PC's external cables.
Is the cat's collar an active device? (transmitter)
Can you alter the freqs, if so? |

the computer doesnt control the cat door what so ever its a standalone thing stuck in the wall downstairs. there is no control over it apart from the little tag the cat wears! the ither thing i thought of was the psu in the computer?

KISS
Did you change the batteries in the door?
How about the cat collar?
Make sure there is nothing outside the door that may conduct also.
Get another cat
do you have a link to this cat door? so we can see it?
It sounds too cool!!!
Have you tried holding the cat while running linux?
If he is right there with you, and the door goes crazy, then I dont know
Sounds like them darn mice messing with ya
maybe the cat is afraid of that penguin?? |

I think the magnetic field that is created by your monitor with Linux drivers is causing it to interfere with the door.
Try looking for the latest drivers for your monitor... That's probably the case.... |
