Have you tried unplugging the speakers?
who knows, can't hurt
Maybe unplug the monitor while you're in linux
Doesnt help solve the problem, but at least you'll be able to remove the variable from the equation...
Ya know, ya learn something new everyday LOL
Warning:
Cat door not compatible with Linux kernel version > 2.2.14
Don't know if its possible, but maybe move the cat door closer to the PC to see how it reacts.
If it goes crazier try to put it near something like the monitor to see if it goes crazier
OH
and you could also unplug the computer
That MIGHT just solve the problem
LOL
(YES I'm joking!!) |

i have tried everything you peeps have suggested to no avail!
the cat went to have his bits done the other day and it still did it when i turned linux on. tried batterys and refresh rates everything. i even think its funny myself . theres 10 feet vertical between my monitor and the darn door. i think it may be a power problem or the monitor i dunno im totaly gone! thing is they stoped makingf these cat-doors and the thing is embeded in the wall so i cant get a new one as the newer ones are too small and one of my cats is so fat she will never make it through! should put her on a diet huh?
well thanx for the help any more jokes about it to cheer me up?

ok....
so you tried unplugging the monitor??
and the speakers??
other than that.. do you have any wireless devices on your computer?? mouse, keyboard, lan,
You could also try this......
get ahold any CB buddies or ham radio buddies you may have.... Ask around you would be suprised... See if they have a RF meter that they could bring over and see if they can find any sources of RF coming off the pc that varies from win2k and linux.... Ham radio operators are normally pretty good at this kind of stuff, because they care about what their equipment does to others.......
another option... replace the CAT and the CAT door... LOL |

Man, oh brother. I've been watching this thread and alternately scratching my head and picking myself up off the floor.
The idea of getting somebody over there with an RF meter doesn't sound too far beyond the pale of reason.
Another thought that occurred to me is that these infernal bit boxes induce "back EMF" or a reverse voltage into the power lines. Trying a UPS with everything computerish plugged into it may give you a clue, as the machine may be radiating RF back through the power line, and if it happens to hit the right frequency in Linux, well, who knows? A UPS is like the electrical equivalent of a water balloon and the back voltage an interference wouldn't make it back out the supply side.
As for the Linux only thing...... (Walks around the room scratching his head and falling down for a few minutes) Linux is a fast OS and Windoze is chock fulla bloatware, right? Maybe Linux is executing instructions at a faster rate, somehow, causing something else in the system to operate more quickly, thus causing the internal frequencies (and subsequent RF) to change, creating the Linux-only phenomenon? Heck, I don't know, I'm groping
Glad it's not your garage door opener, though

Hey I wonder as the last post suggested with Linux being a faster operating system (taking his word for it as I don't know) I wonder if the cat's collar is on a incompatible frequency when running linux. Why not try taking the collar off and play with it and see exactly what is the sweet spot that causes linux to do this. One you got the sweet spot narrowed down put a big X or Circle the circumference of the area that causes this behavior. Then you just might find something in common between the two.
Who knows you just might have a great issue for the show "unexplained Mysterys"

| This whole thread is too funny, MS os' don't run executions any slower, they just execute a bunch of rubbish in the middle.
as for the problem, have you tried unplugging your speakers from the computer? it could be a low frequency produced by the speakers (actually sound card w/ bad drivers) does the cat's collar run on batteries? or is it only magnetic.
also check the ground connection of your computer.
Best of luck.
I think this would be a great question for any tech support =] tho you'ld get a lot of "what? sorry cat doors aren't |

I just found this thread as I just started reading posts on TechIMO, and I think this thread is too cool - it's even funnier than the hamster thread on sysopt because its true! [hope its not a faux pas to mention sysopt here]
The real question is - is this related to Linux and the computer or not? Maybe its the Jolt he drinks while he works with Linux, not he Pepsi he drinks when working with Windows. Maybe its a social rather than an electronic thing. What do we do different when we log in to Linux? Wear our caps forwards?? Wear different pants which emit EMR maybe?? Maybe its the fluffy penguin he forgot to tell us about? ?
I think this whole thing is so weird that we have to investigate it more. Maybe someone could apply for a grant to study this phenomenon - surely someone's government has paid out funds for more obscure studies than this? It could have important ramifications for the computing, pet-loving world. And maybe it might have some impact on time delay locks in vaults or something as well
Maybe its just a coincidence - we need a controlled, reproducible study to verify the astute observations of thekemp.
But whatever it is, some of these posts are really funny! Keep up the theorising / philosophising and we may get to the bottom of this yet (before poor thekemp goes completely insane, or worse, gets stuck with Windows only!)
I only wish I had some real clues I could offer here... | |

Have you tried disabling the IR port in your bios?
How about disabling the cat? |

I think that you should disable the two way enterleave cat door I/O in the bios!
Also disable Bi-Directional kitty travel option!..
