I can't believe this thread has been around this long and I just now saw it for the first time!
Did you ever try Linux on your laptop to see if it did it there too? If it does, you could walk around the neighborhood and see if anyone else's cat flap went nuts also. What would you do if your neighbor ran Linux one day without your knowledge? That would totally confuse the troubleshooting.
Of course, my cat has a door opener too. He comes into the bedroom in the middle of the night and meows for me to let him out. It only works one way though... |

maybe the cat sits in the window watching you and whenever you run linux, microsoft tells the cat to screw with the door to make you stop, its a conspiracy i tell you, cats and gates are working together, the little bastards, the cat sits in teh roof with the collar dropping it down near the door then using a fishing pole to pick it back up and down again, hahahah damn cats

im still here!
the cat door still does it when ever im using my linux box!
i think i may be something to do with xfree86 because when x server isnt started it doesnt do it and i never does it in windows,
ive upgraded to mdk 8.2 now and it still does it!
i bet this is weirdest subject in these forums by far!
no matter where i move the machine it still does it, the old linux box was a p2 400 4 gig hdd 128mb ram , the new machine is a 600 cumine 192mb ram 40gig max 4mb matrox card, this still makes the cat-door go mad!
regards! |

I'd been wondering about this situation and am kind of glad to see it resurrected, but still puzzled by it all. Especially in light of the hardware change, and even the Linux flavor change.
Some 25 or 30 years ago, I was in school near Liverpool for a few years. It seems that I recall that there was one BBC television channel that was deadly boring. Maybe it was all of them, it's been along time
Given that TV is an electronic medium, perhaps placing a small set near the cat door and tuning it to the appropriate Beeb channel would sedate the door? What the heck, you've tried everyting else.....

Ok, now that jameswillamor has resurrected, I thought it was time for an update on the mystery of linux and the cat door. Thekemp, you out there?
