hi ppl... tried Patricks way with only partial success... still get the "AssocIsDangerous" message re SHLWAPI.DLL although I have of course replaced the SHLWAPI.dll file. The error message is on a message panel entitled "Explorer.exe - entry Point not found".
Can't start in safe mode.
any thoughts?
btw I had to get around the request for administrator password in order to get into the Repair Console... hope that hasn't screwed everything! |

I have replaced all the files I need, but I've still got one problem....
When I restart windows I just see the blue log on screen with my username on. After about 5 seconds it just disappear and I only get a black screen with the mouse working. The same thing happens too if I click on my username and type my password.
I wonder what's missing now?
Please send me the answers to my e-mail adress; yaci@online.no

| Great work!!
Great work guys!i am not a comp expert but Thanks patrick for the successful solution and credit to all-my comp works normally now-all thanks to this forum.
i had some problem with my IE6 sp1.suddenly about 50 IE windows were opening by itself.i dunno probably a virus.i ran the complete mcAfee virus checker and found couple of files-one was .worm and the other one was something ae00926.exe.deleted the latter to be sure my comp was virus free.restarted it but then my IE was working really slowly and still about 4 windows were opening itself.thought it was a virus again and tried to uninstall IE completely.restarted the computer and the stupid msgina.dll problem came on.
i dunno but is it right that i cant uninstall the IE??coz now when i did what was written here- my windows works fine but the IE6 is stll there.i am not sure now if my comp is virus free or not but if it still behaves like that(50 windows opening itself).....do u guys reckon i should format my drive and reinstall windows xp??
thanks anyway for the help.
cheers

I have the same problem myself. It came on because I uninstalled Internet Explorer. Apparently that gets rid of these files that are needed. I'm a novice but I'll check in as things go. I just downloaded the recovery CD from my Mac (thank god my Mac never gives me these kinds of problems) but I need to transfer it to a PC to unzip it. I'll keep people updated on my progress. |

I have the same problem that PeterV mentions earlier in the thread... after patching in the new versions of the four problem files, I wind up with a new problem of the kernel.dll error while attempting to boot up windows... can anyone give me help with this?
Thanks,
Daniel |

Are you able to boot into "SAFE" mode under the Administrator's account?
