XP log in issue (blaster)
Some peeps have a prob with their comp. Evidently they had the blaster worm on their xp comp. They have a semi new Dell 82xx. Anyway they followed the Dell tech peeps instructions and now they get to the log in screen and they click on any of the login names and it immediately goes to a blank screen and they are stuck there.
Any ideas pop into your mind immediately?
Is that any sort of behavior related to blaster?? Or did they just mess it up trying to follow the tech guys advice??
(Im way more familiar with w98se and im not really boned up on all the xp 'last known good' or 'recovery console' etc etc)
Thanks, JP"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"

you can try getting into safe mode (f8 just like normal)
and doing a system restore which will take it back to a previously saved restore point. start, programs, acessories, system tools, system restore. if it isnt listed there try start run %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
if that doesnt work, do a restore from the dell cds. this is not directly caused by blaster, but by something else, perhaps something they did while following (or not following) the directions

oh yeah, she tried to follow the Dell dudes instructions to reinstall without formatting I think. I just formatted and reinstalled, lol. Easy money pretty much. Of course if you want to do a good job it is STILL several hours worth of updating patches, drivers, bios, etc etc.

Funny,I'm having to reinstall on a Dell Inspiron 2600 tonight myself.I had to do this with three computers.I think a Windows update messed up somehow. Before the last update no problem and then I downloaded the latest update on three computers and now I'm reinstalling on each.I'm diffently going to try Linux again.

Ive yet to have a problem with any update of off Msofts site. I have heard many horror stories though, usually from peeps who downloaded DRIVER updates.
Probably better to get drivers straight from the maker but I did download several drivers (GF4mx, intel chipset, sound, Roxio update, etc) from Dell today and it all worked out good.
