| Removing items from the Edit button drop-down
Howdy all,
You know the Edit button you can put on the Internet Explorer toolbar? Mine is cluttered with crap like Excel that I will never use to edit a web page with. Sure I could ignore them, but this just does not sit well with my (assumed) obsessive/cumplulsive disorder.
Is there a way to remove them?
I have already found the way to delegate the default (through File Types, Edit), but I also want to delete the others.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Nathan |

Unfortunately, I don't know what you mean by EDIT button on IE. My Edit just has a few drop down items.
If you mean the Buttons Toolbar: Under View, first UNLOCK the Toolbar. The go to Customize and go do what you want.

This is what he means.
I just looked through the registry for "microsoft frontpage" and then each in turn of the other editors and found that each of my programs depicted in this graphic have a Key named HTMLEditor.
Frontpage is my default so it has DefaultHTMLEditor as well as HTMLEditor.
I would imagine that you could modify the HTMLEditor Key name with a semi colon to see if it removes the reference. If it doesn't remove the reference, WinXP's regedit will stay expanded to the Key you were last at so you can easily go back and unmodify.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah thats what I'm talking about; can u tell me where those keys are located in the directory structure? Do I add a semi-colon? If my obvious lack of knoweledge is indicating I may be on the verge of ComputerDestruction, is there a good resource/s available on this specific type of editing?
Cheers mate

A registry newbie. Here we go.
First things first.
Registry Backup as a safety net is always important. http://beemerworld.com/tips/registrybackup.htm
There seems to be a few default editor's listed for Microsoft Frontpage.
My best guess would be that the default editor is located @:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer \Default HTML Editor
See if this jives with your machine.
Go see what the default HTML Editor is as I listed it above.
Change the Default HTML Editor in the Internet Properties/Programs tab and see what you read at the registry address I gave previously. See if it changed.
You'll at least know where the Default is located then.
The rest you will ahve to continue researching on your own. I couldn't find the alternate HTML Editors as I mentioned in my first post this time around.

Try modifying the editors you find @:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList
Use the semi colon trick.
See if any of them disappear from your Editor list in the I.E. Toolbar.

You may have to reboot to see any changes.

Thanks again Beemer.
Is the semi colon trick: changing the Value Data of the Default string of the individual key to ';' ?

In this case you would semi colon the Key name.
