Power Point question
I have been asked to create a PP presentation and put on a small CD to hand out at trade shows and what not.
I can make the presentation (basic one - am still learning), and it works on a machine with PP.
How do I make it work on a machine without PP and then put it on a CD so it auto runs when inserted in the drive?
Thanks
Paul

okay, when you choose to save it, save it as a PPS (Power Point Presentation). Then anyone can view it without having PP installed.
To make it auto-run. Do the following:
creat a autorun.inf file in the root directory of the CD. open that file with notepad and add
[autorun]
open=Filename.pps
That is it. Oh yea, for this example your pps file would have to be in the root directory also.

Thanks Joker,
Does it need a viewer or something to add to the disc?

I just did a test...
the autorun only seems to execute actualy applications, wont just launch the .pps file (unless theres something else you have to do besides open="filename.pps"
Neways, what I did is I used visual basic with a shell module that allows me to launch any file, so i just programmed a little visual basic autorun.exe file that launches the .pps file and then have the autorun.inf file say open=autorun.exe
Worked fine.
Is this more of a one-shot deal, or somehting you need to be able to do over and over again?
If you dont have visual basic and if you just wanted help on this one I could make the autorun.exe file for you.
I'm sure its prolly really easy to do with like c+ and stuff too but I dont have those =(

Actualy. not sure why i didnt think of this b4, but its a hell of alot easier
Just have your autorun.inf file open a batch file, i.e. "autorun.bat"
to make the batch file just start out with a text file and simply put
"Filename.pps"
this will tell it to launch that file from the command prompt automatically
Then rename the text file from "autorun.txt" to "autorun.bat"

Thank for the input Vhockey,
I have tried most of that stuff, I even dowloaded a program that kink of did all of that stuff automatically. But the main problem is that people who don't use PP can't view the presentation, so the main problem is having those people view it without spending a fortune getting the program.
I know there must be a viewer or something out there but I just can't seem to find it. Then I'll work on the auto running CD part.
Your coments are great, it takes me back to the old Dos days, before the GUI.

i know that somehow you can get a viewer like that to run directly off of the cd without installing anything, but i forget which viewer and how.... sorry
I don't like signatures.

Thanks kendo,
I had the 97 version but I didn't know they had the 2003 one. I'm not too sure how to use these on a CD. I have been scouring a lot of sites to see how it is done but most don't go that far. I guess they all think that if you are making a presentation and sending it to people, that those people also have PP.
Now to get it to view from a CD, without having to have PP.
Butch, if your memory comes back let me know your idea.
I guess one day I should take a course and learn more of this.

Thanks Puk,
I was using my main sys and for some strange reason acrobat didn't want to open it. Now I am outside my house using my laptop (wireless) it opens fine. Thanks, I'll take a good look.

Puk,
I can get the pp presentaion to run from th CD but it won't play the music that goes with it.
Can you add any more words of wisdom?
Paul
P.S. Don't worry. I worked it out. I had saved the sound file in the wrong format...Last edited by Wombat; October 26th, 2003 at 10:49 PM.
