| Internet Explorer vs. Mozilla
Hi,
I would much prefer to use Mozilla over Internet Explorer but don't want 2 browsers taking up space on the hard drive.
Can I delete Win. Explorer from WinXP Home w. SP1? |

I wouldn't worry about mozilla taking much space... specially Mozilla Firebird.
unless of course you don't have much space....
firebird takes around 17mb or so |

Not including Java (which should be installed anyways) its only 3 megs

I'd use Mozilla Firebird over IE. You won't be disappointed with the switch.

Can I delete Win. Explorer from WinXP Home w. SP1? | only two before I reformated I had 4 opera, netscape, ie6 and firebird not too mention the number of ie add-on browser such as avant and neoplanet that I've d/l'ed just to try out. The one thing I didn't like about opera was the ad window but its still 100x's better than ie. The newest version of firebird {.07}is very nice but they haven't developed any good skins that are compatible yet
if space is that much of an issue then going with the non java version of opera would be ideal. Even with java it will be about 5-10 mb smaller than firebird with java and flash installed...no matter what you chose you'll see a dramatic increase in page load speeds

I wouldn't try and remove IE from XP. it breaks a lot of things. its pretty tightly integrated into the OS, and you can't get at the MMC (so you can't do device manager, services, defrag etc) without it. Just leave it there. If you were truly bothered about wasting space on your hard disk, you shouldn't have installed XP :P
Mozilla will have you never use IE again, theres so many features that IE is lacking, but every other browser on the market seems to havfe as standard. You won't be disappointed.

Agreed with Nukes
I was just talking to somebody the other day that tried 'xp lite' and it borked the box to require a reinstall of XP
(xp lite removes IE and a number of other unwanted crap)
Basically you're stuck with IE on XP. The other alternative browsers really aren't THAT heavy to need to remove something else to install them. |

Once you use Mozilla you will never go back to IE or Opera for that matter. Mozilla is so much cleaner than the others. I even use the Mozilla Mail program thunderbird.
Give it a shot.
