$129.99 is expensive? I don't think so.
| no it's not expensive...to bad that's not what office costs. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...244&pfp=BROWSE
$400 is a bit expensive to me. especially just for the standard version. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...242&pfp=BROWSE
even the upgrade version is still $240, which is more than i would ever want to pay
Well first of all, apple doesn't have a monopoly on their hardware because that implies full shares in a market, which as we have previously stated belongs to microsoft. I don't think they count because there are other companies just like them: sun, sgi, ibm. They all run custom hardware with a custom *Nix, just like Apple. Also note that with panther you can now run X11 apps on OS X. Or if you want you can install any number of versions of bsd or linux on Mac's. |

| And standard only inculdes Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Word. Think about the people that need the other programs such as Access or Frontpage? They have to spend even more bucks (and $400 is just ridiculous for an office suite) I would stay with the $400 bucks and get a free version of OpenOffice (which actually works, and can accept work from Microsoft Word) and spend the dollars on something else. Just ridiculous IMO

LOTUS SMARTSUITE 9.7 MILLENIUM EDITION NEW http://search.ebay.com/search/search...otus+millenium
Buy it for around $20 on ebay....... works WAY better than M$ stuff anyway....... nobrainer for me. Even opens the M$ formatted stuff.
See screenshots in my gallery. I use it everyday at work.... beats the pants off paying $400 for an Office Suite. Personally, I like it much better anyway. |

Here's the thing about the student and teacher versions...technically most people in america do NOT qualify for this product. If people use this product and they are not a) a student or b) a teacher then they are using it illegally, and therefore does not count because we can all use office for free illegally.
Also i'm not sure how things work outside of texas...but here in order to buy student/tecaher version we have to show our student ID/teacher's ID badge in order to purchase the product. |

You don't have to show any ID in any store or any state for the Student and Teachers Edition...Microsoft doesn't require it. The Student and Teachers Editions are not the same as "Academic" versions where you have to have proper ID.
In order to technically qualify you have to either be a part or full time teacher or student or be a household member of a person who qualifies. Under those terms...most people qualify...and if you don't... you can still buy it anyway. |

| But if I dont qualify and I can still buy it, that means you are using it ilegally. At least in my point of view. Here in Sweden you have to do the same thing as originel expalined in order to get this version.

All the rants against MS and Bill Gates are just so much peeing into the wind. It's a free market, people. Supply and demand and all that. When people start demanding alternatives and open source programming, MS will lower prices to compete. |
