How to remove program "entry" from remove programs

I hope this is the right forum for this question -
I have XP pro and in "remove programs" when I try to remove a program entry it reads "Unable to locate the installation log file" Of course I can't remove the entry in the "remove program" because the program was removed in another way. So there are entries I can't remove. So how do I remove the entries?

Someone in another forum said to go into the registry and type in the text of what I want removed. I did that and that doesn't work. The only way I know how to do it was RE-INSTALL the program and then DELETE through the "Remove Programs." feature. The other way is to format the drive but we all know that is to extreme.

The old TweakUI in the microsoft power toys for 95 still works a treat.
Also lets you get rid of that stupid .5 second delay whenever you click on a folder in the start menu.
