UPS Tracking in WIN2000
Well, after loading win2000 onto my PC over the top of WIN98, I have 1 pesky thing that won't work.
When I try to track a UPS shipment, I get an error message.
Tracking Fedex works ok, as does tracking the same UPS shipment from a 2nd PC running WIN98.
The message is the typical one about cannot find the page or it may be busy or to check my internet settingt, etc.
At the bottom the message, "cannot find server or DNS error".
thanks

Just a shot in the dark here but you might want to see if "automatically detect settings" is enabled in your connection settings in Tools > Internet Options.
I have mine unchecked due to some page display problems I had.

Well, no joy
I checked it, as it was unchecked, but I get the same thing.
Strange that Fedex works ok, but not UPS.
But then again, they are a superior delivery service as well.
There is something about the combo of UPS and WIN2000 that is causing the grief.
thanks for trying

Re: It's a long one.
The link is there, it's just that the site shortens the link for display purposes. I guess.Originally posted by Armadel
still not right and I don't know how to paste a long url in here.
However, if you right click on the link and copy short cut and paste into the browser the whole thing is there.
I cut out your tracking # and went onto the UPS site and was able to get the info on the shipment.

Well huh
your link works and mine doesn't. I will have to compare them and see what the differences are.
I wonder why I get different stuff in the URL ??
thanks again,

What link
do you use to get to the UPS tracking page, cause my URL sure has a lot more stuff in it.
Yours looks like it is for a single tracking number, and it has a requestor in the string.
Hmmmm, most curious.

Even more wierd
http://www.ups.comcom/etracking/trac...?build_trn=yes
even this gets me the same error.
And I got this URL by doing a google search with "ups tracking"
most puzzling.

It should be http://www.ups.com/whatever
instead of http://www.ups.comcom/whatever

I just went to UPS.com and chose my country and then entered the tracking info.

EDIT: I am using W2K BTW.Last edited by Bill in SD, CA; December 4th, 2003 at 05:29 PM.

*sighs*
Well, I went to www.ups.com
selected my country as United States, and it got me to:
http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/index.jsx
which is the single tracking number entry screen.
Regretfully, it yields the same results as all the others,
but the page www.ups.comcom is the one that returned the error.
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
Then a bunch of other stuff talking about cookies, security options, etc., then
Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer
------------------------------------------------
Any suggestions as to what I can reload, and please don't say WIn2000 ?
Is there a repair feature for Internet Explorer ?
thanks,
george

George, this is not a W2K thing.
You posted usp.comcom. Not a good url.
Try this site if you have more than one tracking #.
http://www.ups.com/WebTracking/track?loc=en_US

you never put a .comcom for a .com address. it will ALWAYS result in errors because there is not such domain extension.

Well,,,,,
Bill, I put in UPS.COM, and I don't see where I mention USP.COM.
And using the link you just provided, yields the same results.
It happens when I press the track button.
Thronka, I did not put in ups.comcom.
When I press the track button, that is the web page that returns the error message. Like this:
http://www.ups.comcom/
Something is fiddling with the URL.

This isn't a fix but a bandaid. You could try editing your hosts file. I think it's located at "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" in win2k. Just open it with notepad and add this line at the bottom:
153.2.228.50 www.ups.comcom
Good luck

Getting closer
After editing the hosts file I at least get to a UPS web page but
get this
Page Not Found
UPS.com has a new look. Now, the information and services you value are more accessible than ever
Yadda yadda
http://www.ups.com/content/not_there
and did I say thanks again.
