| Kill Kill logon/off splash screen How do I get rid of the windows logon/ shut down splash screen?
I have X-Setup, it can change the pictures, but I want to have nothing , so that i can save memory and system resources
X-Setup says if the pictures are not in the right format nothing will be displayed, YES I want nothing , but because nothing is seen doesn't mean the system is not trying, hence using resorces and memory
win 98se
512 mb DDr (2x256) PC2100
AMD 1800+
K7S5A v.1
siluro FX5200 128Mb
some of my favorite programs are resource hogs and I'm trying to save some
Thanx |

| (1) I'm not entirely sure that the logo screens are eating up your resources. However, you can try this anyway
(2) Although I haven't tested it (and really have no means to), I think you could try 'removing' the logo by using an invalid logo screen. Simply make a new text file in your C: drive (C:\New Text File.txt) and rename it to "LOGO.SYS" (so you'll have c:\LOGO.SYS). I'd think that this 'empty' logo.sys would show a blank screen.
In Win98, if you don't specify a custom logo, it will use the default logo embedded into "io.sys" (which you should NEVER modify/delete.)
If indeed the logos eat up resources, then the Shut Down screen probably wouldn't even matter. If your computer is shutting down, then your computer has freed up 100% of the resources once it finally shuts off.

| SANDRA says I should turn off the splash screens and wall paper, and my system resources do drop to the 30's with Musicmatch running and two instances od I.E. 6x
I've tried different combonations of things and Music match is just a resource hog, so I'm trying to save some from else where
there are no problems just low resources |

| you on XP?
go here and do the XP services config deal....basically it is just turning off the MANY unneeded services that are running by default in xp.......junk like "smart card helper, portable media serial number, remote desktop session help" blah blah..a long list of em just eating up resources for no reason.
I usually do the "safe" config except maybe a few changes..(like I leave on system restore etc)
--------------------------------------------------
nevermind..I see you r on Win98se, lol.
one thing you could try is checking out startup control panel which is just a better version of MsConfig....a nice tiny little prog that shows more stuff than msconfig....maybe you could find a thing or two extra to turn off.

| you da man John prophet, I've had great advice from you many times and I thank you
But this time I\ve got you beat msconfig-- I have the minimum of apps loading at startup for a long time now, just NAV, zone Alarm, scan registry, load power profile, shpc ( something for my printer) thats it no systemtray, and all that other stuff
maybe SANDRA just got me thinking too hard
after looking at a lot of SANDRA's tips they seem to be pretty general, and maybe not for my machine.
as I SAID Music Match does seem to be a resource hog
but I'd still like to get rid of the win logon splash screen
or maybe I can't get rid of it, just make it black by putting in the wrong info like X-setup says |

Most of the tips offered by the program are pretty lame so I just don't even pay attention to them.
As long as your computer runs fine and just the way you like it, don't customize everything just because ... and trust me, you probably wont get much difference by disabling the wallpaper and all that stuff if you have a fairly decent system (at least 500mhz and up! ).
