RPM Rebuild....What Am I doing Wrong?

I'm trying to rebuild Galeon.

rpm --rebuild galeon-1.10-1.src.rpm
no such file or directory

The file is there, I downloaded it, I checked it, I know the path to it. What's up?

Germ

hi Germ,
You need to be in the same directory or specify the path to the rpm, e.g. rpm --rebuild /home/germ/galeon-1.10-1.src.rpm if it is in you home directory and you are not, you also need to be root because it puts the built rpm in /usr/src/<distroname>/RPMS/i386/ if you don't specify architecture, if you knew that already then sorry for giving too much info.

here are some other hopefully helpful rpm commands

OK.....How did you know it was /home/germ/?? j/k :D

What I did was su and then cd to my home directory. Do I need to login as root to rebuild?

storm2k January 13th, 2002 02:14 PM

no... if you su, you're considered root until you type exit and go back to being just watever you logged in as.

pbharris January 13th, 2002 02:16 PM

use su - it picks up root entvironment, but that should not matter.

this is pretty weird, anychance it it in another directory or a mis-spelling? i know dumb question...but i gotta ask

Germ January 13th, 2002 02:31 PM

no...checked all that. Really weird.

pbharris January 13th, 2002 03:03 PM

try putting in the explicit path even if you are in the same directory...

ChoaticWhisper January 13th, 2002 03:16 PM

Just gotta ask have you tried changing to that directory and then
rpm --rebuild ga{TAB} to see if it will fill in the rest.

Germ January 13th, 2002 03:21 PM

This is really weird. I used the explicit path and still get the same error. I'm going to re-download the source and try again. Will post back.

Thanks,
Germ

re-downloaded the source RPM.
tried to rebuild, su and also logged in as root
removed rpm-rebuilder and reinstalled
tried again and again.

same error each time- no such directory or file

Mandrake 8.1

I'm stumped.
