Windows update ruins 3dmark2003 score

Just to pass on the good news.........

Reformat, windows re-installed etc etc,

3dMark2003 score = 5475

Update windows ME.

3Dmark2003 score = 4290

couldn't believe it, so ran again = 4075.

i kno now wot im NOT goin2 b updating, thats pretty inefficient 2 say the least, naughty, naughty microsoft! im sure it's supposed to hav the OPPOSITE effect (sarcasm intended )

Uh, no, I did them all except the 3 or 4 biggest files (IE was one of the ones I didn't do). I only really needed IDE cache, but thought 'may as well do the lot'.

Never really benchmarked much in the past, so I guess this could've occurred with previous installations, just never noticed.

Oh well, reformatted again, cos I want it all PERFECT this time, and I'm not gonna bother with any updates until I need them.

BTW ordered WinXP for another comp. Should I do the SP1 and SP2? I'm not really too worried about the 'security patches', but I do want it fast and stable.
