Bogus warranty??

I've never really blogged myself before....
Oh boy, where to start. Let's talk about the beloved wally world shall we?
I purchased a car battery from them in Oct. '06. The battery had a 3 YEAR FREE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY on it. Which is one of the reasons I got the battery from there.
So yesterday, I go out to my truck to start it, and nothing happens. So I thought it must be the battery, or my alternator went bad, causing the battery to be drained all the way.
I figured no problem, only had the battery for less then a year, I'm good...
So then I pull the battery out of the truck, to find that it had been leaking all over. Now the kicker to this is the battery acid had literally eaten the plastic "pouch" that most people keep the receipt in, and turned my receipt into a pile of black ash.
I head up to wally world to get a replacement. When I get to the auto counter I explain to the very "flamboyant" cashier that I got the battery in Oct of last year. And showed him what's left of the receipt.
He looked around on the battery and found a shipping stamp, that said Sept. 04.
Well if you do the math, 3 years would be this year, in this exact month.
The cashier said that he couldn't do anything without a receipt. I showed him the pile of black ash and told him I did exactly what the battery said to do, and placed the receipt in the pouch.
He then snickered and said
"Well, I never put my receipt in there, something could happen to it there, then you wouldn't have a copy."
So after calling him captain obvious, and maybe a few other choice words, his manager walked up.
He asked if there was a problem, and I explained the hole story to him, then showed him what's left of the receipt, and told him that even if all they could go by is the date stamp, we are still in Sept. of the last year that the warranty covered, so I didn't see the problem.
He said the warranty "actually" ends the last day of the month before the stamp.
Then I asked,
"Why don't they just stamp that month on the f*$kin battery then."
He had no answer for me...
Needless to say, I left in a fit or rage. Left the dead battery on their counter, with the manager telling me to take it with me...
Moral of the story,
DON'T PUT YOUR RECEIPT FOR YOUR BATTERY IN THE POUCH ON YOUR BATTERY.
and for the love of god, why would you stick a "flamboyant" guy in the automotive section??

| | Oh no, I went to a local auto parts store that sell Super Starts. They also enter your name in their computer system, so no lost receipt will affect your warranty. ![]() I will never step foot in Walmart again! (unless the women makes me.) ![]() |

| | yeah that's definitely the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. if people only change their battery every couple of years or so, surely i don't see the problem in just replacing the battery? i mean you did everything they asked you to do, and you weren't fairly compensated. it's hard to get good help ANYWHERE these days... |

| | Did you have them install the original battery? If so your name, and date of purchase should have been in the system. If not, they gave you the standard answer for what would have looked like a very old battery that was with out a recite. However, always ask to speak to the higher up manager. You either talked to the dept manager or the shop manager, they dont want to replace your batter for free cause that comes off their bottom line, then they get chewed out. Ask to talk to the assistant manager over them, if that dosent work ask for the co-manager or store manager. I work at a wal-mart in the connection center/electronics and we constantly get over ruled by the higher ups. (i've had to give people back money on things that had manufactured dates that were over 3 years old when the standard TV return period is 90 days...) hell, I remember once when some one returned somthing that wal-mart didnt even carry.... it actually said "Made for ALDI" on the damn box.... |
