The question really should be when will this nation look into a more viable fuel source than what oil provides us now? Not what I or you should do to change. We should all have the ability to go to and from where ever and when ever we want not by being held down by the Arab/oil markets. FFS, all that has to happen is a plague infested rat to run inside some embassy and thus causing the oil market to change. The commodity is far too risky for this day and age as well as for this country.
With that said, I hope that we can see hydrogen as a fuel source. Not by the fractioning of carbon compounds, but by water (Salt water) or other chemical electrolysis. Supposedly it is some fifty years away. That isn't a viable solution for today at all. There are however many technological solutions now that can be used. So when will the high price of oil cause us to build the infrastructure? It shouldn't be fifty years away. It can be done, it just takes the feds to help get it done. I am reluctant in saying that the Federal Government needs to push this, but such is the case. As it stands now, no company seems willing to build the infrastructure. Where is the innovation spirit that drives motivation? Like during the 20's.
I know all about the caveats involved with the production of hydrogen; storage, transportation, density per volume, etc. But something tells me this is more of an over all excuse really. I know those are real problems, however why are those problems far too great for companies like; Shell, BP, or Citgo? That doesn't make sense when you have many contracts and despite what congress has reviewed, huge profits*, not just in oil. I know they are working on hydrogen and I do realize that they may foresee that oil isn't gonna keep their stock in good condition. So they experiment and what have you for when the time comes they are prepared for the loss of oil revenues. But to bring hydrogen into market right now? Haaa! they are "banking" why change?
Maybe I'm a conspiracist, I don't know..Think I'll just play my game of Sim City and imagine a nation not being held down by the clutches and gears of Arab control.
How do I commute or how do I want to commute?
(*Congressional revenues negate results. I.E they are corrupt themselves.
