I might be mistaken, but the list of certs that Cisco has are as follows:

    Expert Level
    CCIE

    Professional Level
    CCSP
    CCNP
    CCVP
    CCIP
    CCDP

    Associate Level
    CCNA
    CCDA

    Specialty Level
    SECURITY AND VPN
    IP COMMUNICATIONS
    WIRELESS

If you're asking about the CCIE, then I believe a bachelors' degree has to be obtained BEFORE you get the cert. I could be mistaken.

uss i believe CISS is something like Computer Information Security Systems or something. Which i believe has nothing to do with CCIE or any other Cisco certification.

I have never heard of this? When do a college degree depend on getting a certification? I think you are confused

It's the CISSP cert. My mistake, not the CCIE.

    No Prob GZ3.

JoeSchmo88: In any case, if you're interesting in finding out about Cisco certs, please don't take my word for it... you should check out http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/index.html. Keep in mind that they offer are all proprietary (meaning, it's for their own stuff).

If you're interested in gaining networking knowledge that ISN'T vendor specific, you can check out CompTIA's Network+ cert here: http://certification.comptia.org/network/.

In any case, it's recommended you get the A+ cert first: http://certification.comptia.org/a/.

As far as college is concerned, hopefully somebody else can chime in on the subject, since I'm only goin' the cert route at this point in time.

Here's something I posted in response to someone else on the Cisco Alumni forums regarding 4-year Bachelors programs:

    ----

I'm currently attending the University of Wisconsin - Stout, majoring in IT Management, minoring in Computer Science. I love the school--from the core learning experience to the campus and extra-curricular activities, such as intramural sports and (IT) clubs (I also must mention PONG, of course hehe [People's Organization of Network Gaming http://pong.uwstout.edu ]).

For some info on the degree program, check this link out:
    http://www.uwstout.edu/programs/bsitm/

To check the IT Mgmt site out, go here:
    http://itm.uwstout.edu

When it comes down to it, you will not come close to getting the quality experience/education from a "tech college" as compared the one you would get at Stout. The lab is first-class, and the professors know their stuff. I suggest checking Stout out.

    Good luck!

P.S. I'm posting this from my work (internship), which happens to be a Fortune '50' company. So, those are some "results" of a Stout education, if you happened to care.
