New Job Advice Needed
Hello fellow techimo members.
i am currently out of a job and i would like to do something in the IT department. the question is, where? i am certainly interested in computer related jobs but i do not know how much work is required to obtain certain jobs. i would be starting right from the beginning. there are a number of jobs that i may be able to inquire about here in aus. such jobs include:
- application developer for .NET
- database administrator
- desktop support technician
- solution developer for .NET
- systems admin 2003
- systems engineer 2003
- compTIA A+ 2003
- inet +
- linux +
- network +
- security +
- server +
among others. if anyone has any advice on where would be a good starting point, i may be able to look into the necessary training that is required to get me started. thanks for any help in advance.

Hmmm.. what skills in computers and what training do you have in it right now?
What area would you like to go into?

the only real knowledge i have with computers is hardware related. i have never had any "official" training with computers which is why i would like to know if there are any basic courses i should take or certificates i should obtain that will assist in my career choices. as for the area that i would like to go into, i really have no idea, as i've never worked in IT before and don't really know what most jobs involve. what are the more common IT jobs and where do they branch out to? sorry if i'm not helping much, i am totally new to this. i don't really mind what area of IT really, just something that will lead to a solid full time job later on, with the possible opportunity to branch out.
thanks again in advance.

Start with the A+ and get a job that will start giving you experience. Do whatever it takes to get your foot into the door. Volunteer your time, work for lower pay, whatever it takes
If you can get your foot in, from there you should have the ability to look at different parts of the IT field (depending on the job) If you just work for a place fixing computers, not really much you can do to go into a different field such as networking. But if you work for a place with different departments such as infrastructure, servers, programming, database, easier it is for you to try to get your feet into the water.
