thanks.... yeah ive read through the active directory infastructure course (70-294 and the 70-290) already in class per my instructors recomendation. the way hes teaching is to go through 70-270, then 70-290, and when your done with that take the first test. Then do 70-294 and then take the 70-290 test, and so on.... i agree with his recomendations, especially after already experiencing ms's skewed test orgainization. i just know now that i need to prepare allot more than i did for the 270 test... i went into it really confident, and came out relieved i didnt fail. and im sure if i have any questions you nice folk at Techimo will come to the rescue!

Just took this one today, and passed it. Honestly I didn't think I was going to pass it by the time I was at the end, but I did. Definitely a lot of stuff about permissions. Surprisingly, none about minimum/maximum hardware requirements that I can remember, which I guess makes sense because that's easily available for reference in a real world situation when you're planning an upgrade or something. There was a couple about logical printers and priority settings I think, quite a few about assigning users to default groups. They want the answer that gives them the minimum permissions to do what they ask on those.
The simulations are pretty much general server maintenance stuff I think, so practice adding users and groups, make sure you know what permissions do what, and practice setting auditing. Read up plenty on performance monitoring too.

Congrats on passing, im looking to take it mid may!
Thanks for the heads up on what they focused on, did they ask anything on SUS?
Ramsey if you are studying for the windows 2003 server (290) i have made some flash cards (and updating them daily)

A couple, conceptual stuff that wasn't too detailed; thankfully, since I didn't study that particular topic enough.

If they didn't ask a bunch of SUS questions on the 70-290, get ready for about 9-11 questions on WSUS on 70-291. It still might be on that exam afterall .

Scheduled my 70-290 exam for May 24th

took my 70-284 exam today and passed. It was crazy though!! To be an Exchange exam, it asked a lot of questions regarding routing and I.P.'s. Half of the exam was on installation issues, and the other half were routing/connectivity issues. It's over now though :-).

What are you going for next?

I'm going for exam 70-298 Desinging Security for Microsoft Networks. I think it's 70-298 or maybe it's 70-299 . I've taken the course twice and the book is thin, so I am going to study up and hopefully take the test in two weeks. It is mostly case study, a lot of reading, and choosing the best answers. Should be FUN!

I had to delay my exam because of some stuff going on at work.
6 simulations, like 4 questions on the permissions, some performance questions, and a few backup questions
One more exam (70-291) for the MCSA then its onto my CCNP
Looking at the documentation for the 70-291 this looks like where the fun starts. I am hoping to take this around July 16th. Pretty much the kids have about 2 weeks left of school then the summer starts. I think i can do it

Congrats GZ!!! You are moving right through these exams! 70-291 will be fun and you will be better prepared since you have your CCNA. Don't forget to study up on WSUS if you haven't because there a few questions on the exam about it and I don't think any of the study material has been updated to include WSUS. I'm tugging along this Microsoft stuff, but come Winter, I hope to be going through Cisco, so I can pick at your brain for the CCNA .

Thanks Famos i have been working on the servers alot since i started my job which has helped me out alot, im looking to take the last exam i think July 20th. (that means studying two chapters a week so im not getting all crazy)
I will be leaving that following Saturday for the Cisco Live conference in CA. So i don't want to worry about my MS test anymore once i hit the conference. After i get back (next Friday) i will start my CCNP stuff up again.

Well this is the last 3 days before i take the 70-291. I was supposed to take it tomorrow but i still was unsure about DNS and whatnot. Either way i feel a lot better and hope to pass it on thursday at noon. I hope i do because i am so tired of MS certifications.
If all goes well im gonna take off for a month and look around on what i need to do to start my CCNP. (gathering materials and equipment)

Good Luck on the exam the MS Cert World call "The Beast!" I'm sure you will do fine though.
August 22nd, 2007, 09:13 AM #37
Thanks Famos, im pretty nervous as i just want to pass the exam and get it over with.
I want my month off! Plus learning Cisco stuff is so much more enjoyable to me.

Wow that is indeed a hard exam. I failed it miserably mainly cause towards the end i kind of stopped studying. I have spent the last couple of days reviewing and noticing a lot that i have missed.
I'm scheduled to take the exam again this thursday and i feel a lot more confident about DNS now.
I hate how ms ask questions about RRAS thinking people actually use them as a router. It sucks. I put in the comments of one question, "I wouldn't be cheap and buy some decent Cisco gear to accomplish this"
August 30th, 2007, 01:28 PM #39
All done, passed today with an 820. (they asked alot of the same questions) Now i can forget everything i learned and enjoy my month off. Ill start looking over the CCNP stuff and gathering equipment and reading material.
I'm so happy my life with MS is done with for now. I learned a lot and i learned that i couldn't manage windows as a full time job.
Plus there is a lot more money with Cisco than there is MS

Congratulation GZ!! I failed this exam the first time I took it too!! I agree...some of the questions were kind of weird, and I didn't prepare well enough. I have about three more exams to be COMPLETELY done with MS. I will then start the Cisco and do the Ethical Hacker...hopedully all before December so I can go back to college in 2008 :-).
There is definitely more money in Cisco!! I'm looking forward to learning!
