Itt Tech
Im currently a Online Student at ITT Technical Institute for Criminology/Cyber Secuirty. Im really worried. The more i read the more i see how company's frown on ITT Technical school. I read nothing bad about them. I am already 1 year in and i owe 25k. I had to drop classes 1 semester. Plus i can't get any state aid because its out of state. I also can't switch schools because of there damn credits. Now what should i do ? Finish my education and be 80k in debt with a family to support? I herd devry accepts transfers. Is there online program any better? Im starting to get worried i have a 3.6 gpa and should have a 4.0 but bombed 2 classes after my son was born. I plan on getting my A+,N+, and Security + before i graduate. Any advice?

I would invest in a local college or university that has a name behind it. You can take online courses at most universities and colleges, not just devry and the others that advertise as online. Don't spend money on out of state, I made that mistake and im 25k in debt with 30k to go and it has not been worth it. I wish I had residency.

I'm not satisfied at all w/ITT, don't feel i've gotten anywhere near my moneys worth. For the most part they haven't taught me something i didn't already know. I rather would have gone elsewhere, but everywhere else in range computer programs were less than a year old. I want to go elsewhere when i go for my BA.
I have plenty of complaints, but don't wanna get into em. Maybe im too much of a pessimist though...
Theres a few students that came over from DeVry saying that it was worse over there.
Even if credits don't transfer, you should be able to test out of the classes you passed, i think.

Well the decisions is do you want to be 80k in debt with a degree from a school you aren't happy with or do you want to try something else that wont cost as much as probably be more respectable?
People change schools all the time because they aren't happy, so its pretty much up to you on what you want to do. Even if it means eating the cost.
You need to look at the pros and cons to see what you want.

What are the residency requirements for your state? Usually after a year or two you can establish residency, provided you don't do any other actions which prove your intent to NOT become a resident, like file for voter registration or pay state taxes in another state.
Have you looked into federal aid?

If your planning on letting your educational background be your anchor for a job, you may want to continue with ITT Tech and hope that everything pans out. If your working in some facet of the IT industry while going to school, it doesnt really matter where you went to school. Remember, even Idiots can graduate from Harvard ...
That said, learn learn learn! Nothing beats a strong interview and a solid working knowledge base when it comes to getting a job. Hell, i dont really have any experience other then best buy and i have a degree in English and landed a nice job doing Desktop Support.

I am currently enrolled in ITT-Tech Criminal Justice online division Associates program and I would like to know what is the best way to leave this school ASAP? I just began in September, still in the first quarter, beginning the 8th week. What can I do, I want to transfer to another school. I am on financial aid. Please help me!

Run like the wind. Eat the money you've spent so far and get into a community college. Less expensive and your credits will transfer nearly anywhere. ITT is in this business to solely make money. They don't care about the students or their teachers, only about maintaining the appearance of legitimacy so as not to jeopardize their ability to suck up Federal money. They should be shut down for ethics violations.

Another Spam Free Comment!
Spend 60 minutes on Google searching *ITT and Ethics*. If that doesn't convince you they are a rip-off nothing will. Try and find out tuition costs for a 2-year degree or 4-year degree online at ITT. It is next to impossible. The reason, they charge about $500 dollars a credit hour compared to around $20 a credit hour in CA for example. That is $500. Money well spent? You cannot transfer ONE credit from an ITT campus to a community college, University or State College in the U.S. Is this still to Vague for you?

Community colleges charge aroung 20 bucks but most nationally accredited and largely recognized schools are common to see 500 dollar a credit price tags.
NDNU.edu charges that for their evening accelerated degree program. They expect the average student to get loans, grants, scholarships, etc and will help you secure the money but the bill is yours. I went through all the informational meetings and when they said that your expected bill a year was going to be around 20-25k i was floored.

I'm not sure what ITT Tech those above me have attended but I am in their ADON program right now and as soon as I graduate I will be getting BSN at OU. I've already spoken with the college of nursing over there and my credits will transfer. Before I decided to attend OU I spoke with RSU and NSU and all but one credit was going to transfer over there (Psychology).
My instructors are excellent, professional and very knowledgeable. All but one has a Masters in Nursing.

ITT-Tech does have a name behind it. They have an online division as well as regular campuses. I am in in my 3rd year and taking Criminal Justice: Cyber-Security online. I have one more year to go. When it gets closer to your graduation date, you will take a class that will help you prepare a resume and cover letter and they also have job placement assistance. I have failed two classes also but you can retake them and get a better grade. I am not sure about your state, but I was able to get PELL, TAP and also have student loans. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My advice is also to take what you learn about technician/admin work through ITT tech with a grain of salt. Use whatever knowledge you've received to self-study for your certifications and with the money you save invest in some quality online CBT training if there's no CompTIA/etc schools around you. That's what I'm doing as well. Testout.com is my choice though colleagues are telling me (as I type this) that they prefer CBT Nuggets.
Depends on your style & what works for you.
ITT Tech & Chubb are the same in my book: phony crap (that's my personal opinion... maybe they are different where you live, I'm in the NY area and my experience is ONLY certifications). You can get a better education simply reading (for CompTIA) Mike Meyers All-in-One books. My experience is with certifications only as I cannot speak as to their other programs (CJ, etc). I do have a Bachelors degree from an accredited university (non-tech/trade school) and wish I studied for my certs sooner since I realized technician work is more what I want to do. I do NOT know of their other programs... only computer certifications, so I'm sure the nursing program is different.
* CompTIA exams = self study and online CBT. Get your hands on experience by working from home, purchasing and installing and troubleshooting hardware - for example - for the A+ at home w/ Mike Meyers All-in-One A+ Study.
* MCP = might need to find classes as the tests are more involved but it is impossible to only self-study and use online CBT classes.
* Cisco = You positively 100% need certification courses and lots of hands on experience. And yes those classes could be $4K a piece. On a positive note, if you work for a company that is willing to pay for you to go to school you can typically get back the money via your employer if you pass said tests (this is a common approach to getting Cisco certifications).
You'll find that those cert training areas are centered around major metro areas. If you aren't near one (check the CompTIA locator) don't fret, you'll can use CBT like Testout.com to study for your certifications! It takes hard work and dedication. Constantly ask questions of people who are in the industry and/or have the knowledge you desire.
(Edit: See Classroom Training to find an authorized CompTIA training center around you. For MCP please select - if you can - Microsoft Gold Partners only as I do, I've found they are among the top selections, I'll be using a Gold Partner center on my MCSA one day)
Keep in mind these are JUST my opinions. I realize that many people like ITT tech but I honestly do not: I'm good friends with a Chubb professor and lots of my friends went to ITT tech. Yet I still feel those schools are rush jobs at best. At worst they don't prepare you for any real world scenarios. I'm also of the opinion that the community college approach is good only if they have a CERTIFICATION based class. Many don't. They teach the "same material" for, say, the A+ but aren't actually geared to lead a student through the process of taking the A+ (insert any certification name there, I was just picking on the A+).
Just search the internet a bit and you'll find a lot of technicians like myself saying the exact same thing. Take certification classes from authorized CompTIA, MCP, Linux, Security, Cisco places only (pick and choose depending on what you want to learn). Those institutions that "also" help train you in such things are not truly geared for certifications and, at best, can only help prepare you for generalities.
Edit: A friend did inform me that he learned electrical engineering first at a school like ITT tech and it helped him a lot when he was studying for his certifications. But he studied for the certifications through authorized schools AFTER ITT tech like I described above. So institutes like that can help but they aren't geared entirely for certs by themselves.
Edit:Forgot to add a section to my post: I'm holding Devry to the same standard as those "institutions" I said before. I've heard nothing but good things about Devry, mind you, but for computer certifications it isn't the way to go. BUT as far as finishing your education is concerned I'm sure they have good programs. Just don't look to gain your certification knowledge there.

Institutes/colleges/etc only for other studies and to finish up if you decide to do so.
