    Newbie Here

Hello all. New to the community. I am looking for a career change. I have been told that the computer field is the way to go but I am undecided. I have not had any formal training of any kind but I find computers very intriguing as far as applications, how to get rid of viruses, how to use certain programs to their potential. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Some one posted a similar question awhile back and I always start with the same question

The computer field is very encompassing, and in some areas very invloved. Just having in interest doesn't make it an ideal job field for most. I usually don't agree with Nemo but he summed it up pretty well

Even people who have 15-20 years of experience have to take classes, go to seminars, and visit conventions to learn about new technology and applications of old technologies in new ways.

I am not trying to discourage but i know alot of people who have found themselves completely blind sided once they take a cert and get their first job and realize its not exactly what they had in mind. I know IT professionals who hate their career and wish they hadnt gotten into computer but already have 4 years of college and several years of working in it to go back on. Make sure you WANT to do this before you do it.
there are more good posts in the thread that was quoted from, many will give you things to think about. I don't want to sound discouraging but it always makes me wonder when I see people post such a vague question.
