Comptia certs changing from lifetime cert to valid for 3 years on Jan 1
Starting January 1st, 2011 Comptia's A+, Network+, & Security+ are changing from certified for life to being valid for 3 years.
If you were certified prior to Jan 1, 2011 you will still be certified for life. Anyone who passes the test after Jan 1, 2011 their certification will be valid for 3 years.

Old news. I posted about this in the Tech News section back in Feb/March when they first initially announced the change and it was retroactive so all current cert holders would be expired unless taken within the last three years and would need to renew immediately. They since changed their tune in light of the massive backlash from their community since they had a firm promise of it being a lifetime cert. They figured it was not worth it to piss off everyone at once and extended the time till next year and put it into effect then.

verification
hi,
i was just wondering if someone could verify, since comptia is making changes.
ALL their certs are lifetime til new year's. AFTER new year's ONLY A+, net+, sec+ will become certs requiring renewal/CE and the rest will all still be lifetime.
that sound right? and thanks in advance for any replies

At this time, no other certs are changing as A+, Net+ and Sec+ are their most popular and often received certifications. As Linux, etc has little impact in the work place compared to A+ as more people require A+ for entry level positions than Linux+. PS: Got my A+ last month but no chance at all i will be getting my Net or Sec certs.

What a bummer, they are even making us pay for the renewals. I guess this has a plus side for some people, but only if you are one who can keep up with growing technology. I have to admit it never made to much sense to certify someone for life when hardware and software ends up being obsolete after 2 years.
