Earlier in the year I took a 75 question sample of it.

What stands out the most to me was the quantity of questions relating to coax cabling. Lengths and troubleshooting steps were common. (I wasn't really expecting much on this since I consider it outdated technology).

Then a couple were on SNMP and relating MIBs.

One or two on token ring troubleshooting.

    Several on UTP and CAT3/5.

That's all I remember. I will actually take this test at the end of January while in Chicago.

    DVNT1,
Where did you happen to take the test at? Any links to sites where we could get some sample tests?

At http://www.measureup.com It was part of a job interview and they paid for a test, not sure if there are free ones there or not.

The results of the paid test also went to the company who paid for the tests.

I took it around the beginning of the year. It wasn't too bad. It's probably a good intro to any of the more intense network certifications. The Sybex book has a cd with sample questions, but they didn't read in the same way as the test questions.

I passed the exam today, and contrary to what alot of the prep materials say,you must score at least 84% for a passing mark.Unlike A+,where 68% percent got you certified(before going adaptive).
The Network+ also goes adaptive in '02.
I used the Michael Myers All-In-One Exam Guide for the most part.I also used Sybex's Network+ Exam Notes and found it was useful.
The only questions I didnt expect covered PKI and the drag 'n drop style format on a few questions was sort of strange, but for the most part it was what I expected.

Question....does having both A+ and Network+ allow you to bypass one of the MCSE Core exams? That's what a fellow student told me, not sure if that's accurate or not...

    Yes

On the new track, The MCSA, if you have an A+ and a Network+, they you skip on Microsoft exam.

Which specific exam can you skip? One of the core?

I only know that the A+ was Adaptive. When did you find out that the Network+ went adaptive? If Network+ is now adaptive, how many questions do you say it is? The Adaptive A+ is about 20-30 questions long in adaptive format, 30 minutes allowed to finish each exam.

I already know that the A+ is adaptive all the way (because I took BOTH A+ Core and OS parts and passed them) but Network+ going adaptive--that's news....

Well, I got my Network+ in 2001, so I'll bet it has changed since then.

But a few things come to mind:

Subnetting- make sure you can do it, not as critical as it is on the CCNA, but you'll miss a few if you don't understand it.

    TCP/IP - Obviously

IPX/SPX, Token Ring, ....insert other irrelivent things here. Like DVNT1 already alluded to, there's stuff on there that you will very likely never need on the job, but will need for the test.

If you already have a decent understanding of networking, find an up to date Network + book, read it, and you should do fine.

Network + isn't terribly hard if you understand the basics, and you study for the stupid details. Definately not as hard as the CCNA was. I wish I remembered more...but that's all I can come up with.
