| Should we STOP free speech?
A Person in Australia was forced to remove his T-shirt because "in light of the present circumstances" it may be offensive to other passengers. The T-shirt said "World's #1 Terrorist".

I don't use the N word because I think it's childish, thuggish, and offensive. Many newspapers should consider the use of words derived from "leaks".
The N words isn't used by middle class blacks, only the classless refuse in the sewer.

Funny; I don't see anything in the First Amendment that recognizes a right not to be offended.

Define "free speech". You've never really been able to say anything you want. banning t-shirts crosses the line. next thing you know, students wearing black arm bands to protest a war will get kicked out of school.

The t-shirt wasn't banned nor was it confiscated. They simply asked that he remove the shirt due to the perceived concerns of the other passengers.
He was obviously out looking for a confrontation and his 15 minutes of fame.

Free speech? Other than in theory, we don't have, and never really had, "free speech".
First off, nothing is "free". Free is paid for by those who fought our wars and those who continue to want to do the right thing and keep our country strong. Secondly, speech has always been curtailed. Can't say shit (literally) on regular or cable TV. You can spew racial profanity, but you'll probably get beat down sooner or later (free, but dangerous nonetheless). And now this latest wave of "I'm a terrorist" t-shirt thing. Remember that one a few months ago?
Personally, I think these "I'm a terrorist" t-shirts should be stopped. The people who wear them are idiots, and I think idiots who do stupid things like this should be punished...if not for breaking the law, but for just being a dumb ass. |

Or 98% of the people on this forum. You'll get no argument from me. But at least I'm not a dumb ass publicly.
And for God's sake, Vern, please make a public poll one of these days. |
