Lets BAN McDonalds restaurants!
IN USATODAY Prince Charles has suggested banning Mcdonalds restaurants if we want to reduce obesity in our society.
Charles made the comments while visiting the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi for the launch of a public health campaign, The Press Association reported.
"Have you got anywhere with McDonald's? Have you tried getting it banned? That's the key," Charles was quoted as asking one of the center's nutritionists.
Now his comment went only to McDonalds, but what would happen if we removed ALL of the fast food restaurants? Would eliminating just McDonalds be enough to help people become healthier? Wouldnt eliminating all of the restaurants that did not provide a completly healthy food menu be much better?
Would we actually reduce the obesity rate if we got rid of all of them? Or would people just buy the cheapest(read least healthy) foods possible? Would making people eat at home all of the time be any better? Would enough of the people actually become healthy if we do this to be economically viable?
Gotta remember that people will lose their jobs if we ban fast food restaurants-which means money lost which is ALWAYS a bad thing. What would happen to the people who lose their jobs if we do this, Not to mention the financial loss to the entire economic structure of our society. Yes payback down the road would be fewer medical bills, but would it be enough to offset the revenue lost by removing the fast food restaurants and the jobs lost? They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

People make choices everyday to eat that crap. No one is holding a gun to their head.

You'd have to ban hotdogs too!
What I find is that if I take the easy way out for supper, (Pick up McD's on the way home or something similar) I go horizontal on the couch right after eating.
If I cook up a good meal, (e.g. Steak and veggies) I look for things to do after eating.
There's seems to be a total lack of energy in junk food suppers.
If McD's were made to produce a hamburger that was actually nutritionally valuable the price would inevitably go up and thus people wouldn't take the easy way out due to the cost of feeding a family at McD's.
Fast food should be exactly that. FOOD! Not sawdust mixed with beef flavour.
You don't get the required energy that it takes to keep off the couch at McD's. What you get is fat and lazy. When those who believe in any of the available gods understand why they deny all other gods, they should come to understand why atheists lack a belief in theirs.

The other problem is not just what people are eating but what people do in there free time. They sit around all day watching tv or playing video games. A horrible combination which leads to fat people.
If some people would take about 10 minutes (heck not even that long) to make a small lunch. They would be better off.

Hello,
I have friends of mine that live in the U.K., and even they will admit that most of the food people eat there besides McDonalds (fish and chips, and other fried food) is very unhealthy. There is an 8 year old boy in the living in the U.K. with his mom weighing around 260 pounds. From what I've read, and heard on the news he eats every 20 minutes or so. They threatened to take him away from his mom, and put him in foster care. But right now he is still living with his mom, and not sure what's going to happen next. I will agree with GroundZero3 about people eating, and sitting around the house playing video games, and watching television. When I was younger growing up (way before computers were a household item), my friends and I spent the day playing outside...soccer, football, running. The only sports kids are playing these days is whatever CD they have for their PS3, Xbox...etc.

Food Rationing, during wwII the UK was at its healthiest ever because the portions were set to be healthy and the right amount. Now we just need to incorporate this into the Homeland security package and we'll all be skinny and healthy enough to fight terrorism.

You can't take Prince Charles too seriously on this; he is, after all, a vegetarian.

As long as they don't ban Burger King I don't care if they ban all fast food places.

Prince Charles would never suggest banning Burger King. It's a UK based company after all . . .

OK by me. But the fastfood industry would have Prince Charles banned, before he got anywhere with this idea.
The book, 'Fast Food Nation' is about the health and work problems, that have arisen, since McDonalds and other franchise restaurants became big business.
The cattle lots and animal diseases are particularly scary.
