I want to reduce our nation's dependence on foreign oil...

...as long as I still get to drive my SUV as much as I want. This is the typical American attitude. Think globally, pass the buck locally.

Passing the buck on fuel economy

    Hee's a real eye opener...
Back in 2000, when gasoline was the cheapest liquid around, fuel economy ranked as the 29th most important attribute in buying a car. Today, when gas costs as much as $3.25 a gallon, good mileage still ranks only 22nd. Sound systems and convenience features rank higher as purchase considerations.
    Sound systems?

Upgraded speakers from the factory...that is if you were seriously asking a question and not being sarcastic.

The question I am asking, and I intended no sarcasm whatsoever (which I admit is a departure from my M.O.), is why the average American believes the sound system is more important than gas mileage?

    Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Thought so...I just wanted to make sure

And in all honesty, it's because the average american is foolish. Look at all the people out there who will gladly spend thousands on making a car look nice with new paint and rims and all that jazz, but will not spend a dime to fix the car's motor up minus oil changes and air filters.

Regardless, if you've got the money for a car with that good of an audio system upgrade, I honestly doubt they care to much if the car gets 20mpg or 30mpg.
