Thousands of protesters are expected to gather in downtown Chicago on Tuesday to oppose deportation raids of illegal immigrants.
Chicago has been the site of major demonstrations before, but this week's rally at the Daley Center, the culmination of two separate marches, is expected to carry an angrier tone. Organizers say photos of deportees will replace flag waving and messages of cultural pride.
Family members of people affected by the raids will be among those speaking.
Organizers are encouraging immigrants to attend with two demands: that raids cease while Congress considers immigration reforms and that reforms make it possible for the country's 12 million undocumented immigrants to gain legal status.
