Every single Catholic church that has the means to do so uses wine at every weekend mass. Many also distribute wine at daily masses.
Also, if you had the legal limit for minors at 0.00 then you would run into problems with things as simple as some cough medicine, etc. The slight increase in the amount is to make sure that minors are not punished (or the system not abused) when they get alcohol in their body via legal ways.I don't like signatures.

Hello,
Can we get back on the thread, and leave the communion/religion out of it???
My questions were
1. What would you do as the parents???
2. If this case goes to trial (which it should) what you want to give as a sentence if you were the prosecuting attorney?
Take Care

July 8th, 2007, 12:06 PM #30To end this side discussion I will say that it's more than likely the "fringe" fundamentalist churches, not the mainstream ones, that are the ones that have eliminated wine in lieu of grape juice. All synods of the Lutheran church, my church, offer both and children as young as 8 years old can participate, depending on their church doctrine involvement. BTW, bread-only communion was the signature of the Catholic church for most of it's history.Name a church that is mainstream and uses wine. I can't think of any, they've all gone the grape juice route."Education: That which discloses to the wise and disguises from the
foolish their lack of understanding."

Hello,
Do you really think she was taking cough medicine (for a cold/cough), and or went to communion before hoping into a car? A song comes to mind
And the preacher said you will always have the lord by your side. And feeling obliged I ran 20 red lights in his honor...thank you Jesus, thank you Lord. (Rolling Stones - Girl with far away eyes - lyrics may not be exact due to copyright laws). Or how about: Oh yes your honor I was taking cough medicine before I drove illegally. I know I don't have a license, but the cough medicine is what gave me the 0.2 blood alcohol limit. She wouldn't have a blood alcohol content of 0.2 if she wasn't driving, nobody would have known her "BAC". Police: Excuse me young girl, have you been taking cough medicine? If so we need to give you a sobriety test to make sure your under the legal limit...legal limit to do what??? What is your point here? That minors should not have a legal limit of 0.0? That means nobody should be having a legal limit of 0.0 to do anything. We should be drunk all of the time...0.2 "BAC" across the board for everybody. I've been taking cough medicine...I have a cold. Who's with me on this??? Butch...sorry but you need to look at things from a better perspective. I give people the benefit of the doubt...this girl is guilty one hundred percent. Besides if she wasn't drunk she would have pulled the car over...sorry officers I was taking cough medicine, and I didn't know what I was doing. Take Care.

Hello,
Your right...now add alcohol to the equation. Illegal driving, and intoxicated. What was she more worried about at this point? The alcohol most likely impaired her judgement, and she freaked. Take Care.

You made it sound like if she hadn't been drinking(I am not even sure at that level it could be classified as drunk or not) she would have pulled over. I was pointing out that she was still breaking a law, regardless of the drinking, I am sure that the police chasing her would have scared her enough to try to outrun them if she was drinking or not.

Slow down there before you get all worked up over nothing. My post was mearly answering two questions from earlier in the thread (What churches use wine, and what other reasons are there for having a legal limit for minors above 0.00). Not once in my post did I give any thoughts on this particular girl. I personally felt that I did not have to give my personal thoughts on this because I share the same thoughts as probably 98% of the country have: she should never have been drinking (I agree that she probably stole alcohol from her parents or by some other means) and she should not have had access to a car, and she definitely should have been supervised better so that neither one of those could have happened. My comments about church wine and cough medicine were only written to help explain possibilities of a limit above 0.00. If there was a limit of 0.00, then there is a much greater chance of the system being abused, such as a kid gets hit by a car while riding a bike. In the hospital they take a blood sample and find a 0.001 BAC due to cough medicine. Now you and I and every sane person would know that this would have virtually no effect on her whatsoever. However, you could be 100% sure that there would be lawyers trying to get the driver out of trouble by claiming that the kid was riding "impaired above the legal limit." I feel that this is actually one law that they got right by making it less prone to frivolous claims and blatant abuses.
So, I agree that the girl (and parent) deserve punishment. And I also restate that my previous post was merely trying to help other members get the answers they were looking for.I don't like signatures.

Hello,
Sorry Butch. If I made it sound like she hasn't been drinking, that was not my intention...she was, and she's guilty on all counts. Ground her until she is 18 years old, with the exception of school, and work (she needs to find a job to pay for any property that she damaged). Write a essay about drinking, and driving, and read it to her school...so those kids growing up will know what it's like it be in her position...so they don't do it. And finally...rehab. I would say juvenile home, but I don't know what the prerequisites are. I could have told you what they were in the 70/80's, but I'm sure times have changed. Take Care.
