Ontario was mentioned earlier in the thread. In Canada a 16 year old can leave home legally without parental permission. Get married without parental permission at 16 and have sex at 14 with someone within their age group. Sexual discovery is within their constitutional right.
All that being said, try and stop them legally at age 16 and 22 and the risk is loosing the daughter in this case if she is a rebellious teen.
Best to make sure kids know about contraception by age 14 or 15 in case this situation pops up. Health class in grade 7 I think takes care of offering this knowledge if I remember correctly.
Sex is wonderful.
Unwanted pregnancy at an early age is bad. Life goes on hold for a long time if giving the child up for adoption or abortion isn't an option. When those who believe in any of the available gods understand why they deny all other gods, they should come to understand why atheists lack a belief in theirs.

Look at blacks in the US and tell me that there's no problem with minors (defined here as under 18) having sex. There is a clear and unequivocal correlation between minor girls having sex and high rates of divorce, poverty, violence among children, you name it.

Oh yes, the high divorce rate and all those other problems you mentioned is all to blame on young people having sex.

What would everyone think if the situation was the other way around...?
If a 22 y/o female wanted to get it on with a 16 y/o male, would that be causing such a big debate...?

I don't know what the heck your talking about, you sound like you agree with me. Maybe you need to re-read those comments.

Young kids having sex doesn't mean they will be a screw up later in life, but if they are already screwed up it's probably more likely that they'll have sex with someone they really don't care about."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

I am probably alone here, but whoop dee do it is just sex folks. I mean if they want to have sex, let em. If it is done right It can be fun and safe. I don't see why this country is obsessed with shielding kids from it. I also hate the whole "sex has to be special" stuff people spew. To me it is only special if the person your with is special to you and vice versa. Other then that, geez it is just fun.
On the topic of the sex predator thing:
Just the other day, I was driving along and up ahead of me I can just barely see some movement where there is a drop off in the road. I pull up and it is this, what I would guess, 10-14 yo girl trying to get her stubborn dog back in the street. I told her people speed over that part of the street and she should get him back in the yard fast, and went on my way. Down the street a bit I was looking in my mirror and she is still out there trying to deal with him, so i turn around and put my hazards on just as a biker swerves out of the way to miss her. I then got out, yelled at the dog and he got the picture and went back in the yard and into the house.
So the next day I am telling the story to a friend when I realize how fucked I would have been If some parent looked out and saw me there in the street with my car(to top it off I had my handguns in the car at the time). It made me think that jesus, It isn't worth trying to help, since If you are ever arrested on suspicion of some perv act, your screwed for life. It seems like it is one of those things where you are guilty and have to prove your innocence, and after the media gets done with you, you will always be guilty in the publics eye.Just say no To LEDs and neons

Your NOT alone Cerberus, yes it IS just sex between consenting ADULTS. Too many people believe that the age of consent should be 25 and not 14, 15, 16 or 18.
I happen to believe that once the person is of age they are free to enjoy or screw up their lives in any way they want. They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

That's the key word there, and do you honestly think that kids are thinking about "doing it right" ? They are just concerned with "doing it", and the younger they are, the less risk they think they face because they do not have near the EXPERIENCE to understand the ramifications of their actions, the effect on their lives if the girl gets the worst STD she could get at the tender age of 14...a baby.
I'm sorry, but the average 14 year old is not capable of making important decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives, much less the average 22 year old!
Granted, if everyone hashed out the cause and effect of sex everytime the opportunity arose, the birth rate in the country would decline sharply!
The bigger point I'm making isn't sexual maturity, it's mental maturity that needs to be taken into account when it comes to things of this sort of nature.
An 8 year gap between them, fine as long as she's old enough to vote. and so is he.this post contains small bits of intelligence culminating to the appearance of wisdom.

I didn't think anyone would make any comments relating to the situation being reversed...
Without meaning to sound "big-headed" or "cocky" or anything/otherwise, but I popped my cherry at the age of 10/11. I may or may not have known the ramifications, but I didn't care. It had nothing to do with peer-pressure or anything. She was in the school year above me, and I don't think it had any major affect/effect on me - or her...
I can't really comment on this particular issue, as I think it depends entirely on the situation and how mature (mentally as well as physically) they BOTH are...I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...
