What happens if we all get climate change religion?

From www.Canada.com
Quote:
Nothing warms the heart of an atheist more than the news that another moralizing preacher has been caught with his pants down.
So what fun the climate change deniers had earlier this year when within days of Al Gore winning an Oscar for his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, a conservative think-tank from his home state reported that Gore's Tennessee mansion consumed 20 times the energy of an average American home.
For the skeptics, the revelation that Gore is a wealthy man with assets to match was further proof, as if any were needed, that climate change is a hoax based on junk science and perpetrated by hypocrites.
Judging the merits of the science of climate change based on Gore's personal lifestyle is ridiculous, of course, regardless of whether the former U.S. vice-president is a hedonist or an esthete.
Gore earned a share of the Nobel Peace Prize for his role as a missionary for the cause, but the words he spread were spoken first by his lesser-known fellow honourees, the hundreds of scientists whose work is represented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Equally ridiculous, however, is the notion that Gore or anyone else can be a true believer and carry on as though nothing has changed.
So Gore should be willing to answer why he feels justified in maintaining such a relatively energy-intensive lifestyle while preaching restraint for the rest of us, because the really inconvenient truth is that our whole notion of what constitutes the trappings of a successful life is being challenged by the new math of climate change.
All of those things that added up to the American dream, and by inference the Canadian version -- the big house, the flashy car, a yacht, the vacation home, holidays abroad and a never-ending stream of new toys -- all increase our carbon footprint. In the new era, big is bad and bigger is worse.
There has been a lot of discussion about the effect on our economy if we had forced major industries to cut back their carbon emissions to meet our commitments under the Kyoto Protocol.
Opponents of the accord, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper, argued forcefully that such deep cuts would result in a made-in-Canada recession with all the trappings -- plants forced to close, jobs lost and governments unable to pay for the services we have come to expect because of falling tax revenues.
But what happens to our economy if ordinary citizens get religion? What happens if we redefine the Canadian dream to allow for what scientists believe will be a better future for the rest of the world?

More here.

We don't change what we do, only change how we do it. New tech will help us through the change.

What happens if we don't?
