It has been proven to be true. The amount varies from person to person. To prove it out you need to measure yourself every morning and every night at the same time every day. you also need to ensure you spend that same amount of time in repose.
We used to measure our guys in early morning so that heavy individuals would benefit by this and be closer to height/weight requirements.Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,
Jesus Christ and the American G. I. One died for your soul; The other for your freedom

This is proven when you get in your car in the morning and have to adjust the rear view mirror up. After a long day your spine compresses and you may have to adjust the mirror down a bit again. If it wasnt true then the mirror should be left untouched, right?

This is another thing about accuracy and not being able to test this. Sometimes I get in the car and I have a better posture - my ass is snug between the seat bottom and back. Other times, I slouch, in which case, I have to move the mirror down.
Same with having to take a measurement of someone...you can't stand the exact same way every time when you get your measurements taken. Sure, you may shrink as the day goes on, but you could be slouching more as you're getting measured, too.

I guess my post was not quite clear. Gravity has nothing to do with it until your weight is considered. Gravity pulling down on your axial/appendicular skeleton is why compression of your vertebral discs takes place. The original statement,
is false. It's the weight that gravity is pulling against, not just gravity.Gravity compresses our joints making us shorter...

Without gravity, there is no weight - it's just mass.
