I love how, in the class I'm taking, the USA is blamed for most - if not all - of Latin America's problems (specifically income inequity and poor living conditions), and yet somehow government corruption is omitted. I'm sure this is somehow the United States' fault. |

You should bring that issue up to your teacher.
In fact, ask her is it's a practice we should have here. |

I was thinking about it when she asked what could be done about the immigration problem. She gave some number for the price of building the fence and asked if it could be better used or just not spent at all.
One kid said to invest it into the Latino nations. I was an inch from raising my hand and saying..."yeah, good idea...that money is going straight to the dictator - err, president - and the impoverished won't see a dime of it...but good idea." Silly bright-eyed, bushy-tailed liberal arts-type college students. |

Your instructor should certainly be challenged if inbred corruption is ignored as an issue. But I'm guessing the class has its share of snot-nosed kids who think our shit doesn't stink, and the rest of the world owes the U.S. a debt of gratitude for even allowing them to exist. So the instructor may be attempting to open a few eyes.

I get a bit suspicious when they start talking about how awful NAFTA is, though. Granted, the USA shouldn't be in it (the lost manufacturing jobs aren't worth it), but what would Mexicans be doing for labor were it not for U.S. companies? If underpayment is the problem, then Mexico should get around to drafting some minimum wage/labor laws. But they won't do that because it'll kick U.S. corporations out, which most likely bribe the government - scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours. So that is why Mexicans will be an economically disparate country...only unless and until a new, uncorrupt government comes along. |

In the travel essay I just finished, God's Middle Finger -- Into the Lawless Heart of the Sierra Madre, the author pointed out how our trade policies have destroyed traditional village farming there. People can no longer make even a meager living growing corn, because our cheap subsidized product has flooded their markets. So what do they grow now? Marijuana, of course! |

| Why don't you list a few things wrong with other countries rather the pull the "Blame USA First" liberal commie BS.
The poverty south of the border is caused my lawlessness created by corrupt dictators taking bribes to stay in power: You can control this province if you don't attack me and make me look bad.
Latin America for the most part is corrupt to the bone. A habit brought in by Spain since "The King" owned everyone and everything, and if you didn't steal you could go no higher than subsistence farming.
You want to smell shit Pexter? You are sniffing in the wrong country. Have you ever left the USA and gone to a war zone or other poor country? It will change even your attitude.
Oh, one more thing: Have you checked the price of corn lately? They are doing quite well. And if those in South America aren't, it's not our fault.
