If the racial makeup of people in jail were much different then that would be racial discrimination. people in jail are overwhelmingly there because they did harm to their community.

So if minority is the majority in prison then that is because Minorities were preying on their fellow minority members. Black on black crime is what causes the desparity in jails. the number of minorities in jail for crimes against the majority community (aka situations where juries are discriminatly puttn away some evil "black mongrul" for lookin at a "white woman" or for being in the wrong town.) {PS the black mongrul comment is a reference to something that might have been used in a racist court it is not meant to imply my feelings}


There may be some folks in prison for racist reasons but in the end that is not what makes the population imbalanced. People in prison are in prison because overwhelmingly they did harm to their community and are being punished for it.

White crimes don't go unpunished (the majority of white crime is against white folks)

Black crimes don't go unpuninshed (the majority of black crime is again against blacks)

if it is your contention that black/what ever minority crimes should not go unpunished to improve the ratio in prison then you are quite strange??? that would mean no longer punishing guilty people for hurting minority people. would that not be a crime in and of itself??????

Sorry to say, that's a naive view. Blacks are in prison in greater proportion to whites for two main reasons.

The first reason is that a greater proportion of blacks are in poverty compared to whites and have less job opportunities. As such, they have less access to proper legal representation; more likely to be convicted and more likely to serve jail time.

The second reason is that blacks (who primarily live in cities) are more likely to get caught. Drugs are the main crime for blacks in jail. In white suburbs, high school students sell drugs to each other from the privacy of their homes where it is unlikely law enforcement lurks. In cities, drugs are sold on the streets, in plain view.

Way to be making excuses for criminals. I've seen the same bullshit in my American Ethnicity class: blacks are disadvantaged, they've been discriminated against which makes 'em commit more crime, they live in the inner-city, they have no opportunities, crime is their way of surviving, etc.

It's just another tactic by liberal-leaning people to make normal white people feel bad. It's a guilt trip. Whites have no more hand in the criminal propensity of black people than black people have in making white people white.

The liberal types - the ones who claim to be so enlightened on all social issues - are the ones who make distinctions based on race and color. For some reason, it's always an issue. They see black people undeservedly in jail - such as MTA - and then they see the evil white folk who deserve to be in jail for just being white. Any normal person sees criminals as criminals; no color, no race, no sex. They did something wrong, so they're in jail. Besides, if everyone who did something illegal was in jail, there'd be no one on the outside.

It's not to make anyone feel guilty, Bingo. It's just something called "reality." To add to MTA's list, the HUGE disparity between sentences for crack cocaine vs. powder cocaine account for a chunk of this. Middle-class kids (black OR white) are not likely to get harsh sentences for drug-related crimes; they will probably get a diversion program, if anything.

The big difference between our views here is that many of you seem to live in Fantasyland -- where racism was eradicated from our society back in the '60s, and now you poor white kids are being discriminated against. I've got news for you -- "Driving while Black" is still a "crime" in many parts of our country. Informed people know that.
