You're reasonable enough to know things don't happen automatically, and that harmful things need to be done in the present to make things better for the future.
While I'm not a staunch supporter of the war, I surely don't loathe it as much as some people. I find it highly hypocritical that you're critical of the Iraq war but supportive of overseas aid.
And if you think throwing money and food to dictators is the answer to third-world plight, you are sorely mistaken.

Your ability to rationalize and think that somehow Obama is a cure all.
He is FAR from it. NONE of the candidates are.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a black guy running for the white house.
Hell, If Colin Powell would run... he'd have my vote so fast it'd make your head spin.
Obamas** views are NOT what is needed for this country right now, and not ever.
McCain as much as I DON'T want him in, is sadly our best and least painful choice.... esp in the state that our country is in right now.

| That somehow means my "moral compass is so fucked up?" Did you even read what I've been posting? This one, for instance? Quote: |
I don't have any illusion that we're not in for some tough times, but we absolutely need to start changing course. We CANNOT afford another term of Bush's "policies."
| Did that give anyone the impression that I thought Obama was a "cure all?" And even if it did, how does that make any statement about my morality? joko, bring something a little bit more substantial to the argument, please. |

First of all who ever gets in...do you think they are going to change much, and or anything? Let's get something straight the President doesn't run the country anymore, and either does the people...the U.S is run by the lobbyists, and businesses. We have Senators, and people in congress getting lots of money from whomever to make their lives better, and in return they don't care if it screws the American people.
Sure the President can veto bills..etc, but how much crap is happening within congress that is done by lobbying. Here's some money...now make sure that this happens. You really don't want to lose that new $65,000 car you just bought do ya? |

I heard an interesting commentary by Robert Reich yesterday on Marketplace, essentially saying that institutions like the Fed have become our "hope" precisely because Congress has been overrun by corporate lobbyists. "We, the People" have no Congress. I used to think serious campaign finance reform was the only answer, but with the Supreme Court holding that $$$ = speech (how's that for "activist" judges, you scumbag Scalia?), even that prospect seems out of reach. |

Jesse Ventura was talking on Larry King about a month or so ago, and he brought up a lot of things that need changing, and one of the things was lobbying. We need to either get rid of it, or put major cuts/changes to it, and give America back to the people. |
