Sums what up? It certainly sums up a great refutation of this guy's Straw Man argument. But is has nothing to do with Obama's stated positions. Maybe that's why you like it so much, Chuck. You, too, only debate against Straw Men.

This guy's thesis is nothing more than the false rhetoric the right-wing has been passing along for a while; namely, that Democrats will bring foreign policies that will weaken the U.S.; if Democrats raise taxes on the rich, the rich will "change their behavior."
Never mind that under the opposite policies of the right-wing the country is far weaker, far less prestigious and less trusted than the country Bill Clinton left them. As for taxes, the writer wants us to believe that if taxes are returned to the level under Clinton, rich people won't want to be rich any more because they'll have to pay more taxes. Oh, heavens.

* Novak believes that Utopian beliefs can lead to the weakening of social bonds. He wrote that "the family is the human race's natural defense against utopianism." (The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism)
* He states that religion can 'thrive only in a personal universe' and not universities or companies, and that Western Humanism, which he states is the leading belief system of most of academia, does not ask "the fundamental questions about the meaning and limits of personal experience" and that "they leave aside the mysteries of contingency and transitoriness, for the certainties of research, production, consumption." ("God in the Colleges," A New Generation: American and Catholic (1964))
* Novak states that the Holy Trinity and God are often thought of in abstract and impersonal terms in philosophy, and that they should be "thought of as a Communion of Divine Persons—radiating his presence throughout creation, calling unworthy human beings to be his friends, and infusing into them his love so that they might love with it." (From “The Love That Moves the Sun,” in A Free Society Reader)

So let's see some predictions of what happens (and why) when Obama becomes president...
How long will it take the lunatic fringe of the Left, the moveon.org crowd, the Soros brigades , the gay marriage activists, etc., to all make a beeline to the Oval Office demanding their pound of flesh for their support and money... how long before they demand a constitutional convention be called to re-write our ( as Sanford Levinson puts it) undemocratic constitution?
Will America be turned into a parliamentary mobocracy, can we say goodbye to the 2nd Amendment, will we get Progressive, social activist judges appointed to the Supreme Court, can we expect the imposition of crushing energy taxes?
One thing I've always wondered about Obama... how can someone hoping to lead a party that's spent the last 50 years using identity politics to divide America into competing racial, sexual, ethnic and economic groups suddenly going to unite the country... are the Democrats going to stop playing the race card at every opportunity, stop affirmative action, stop the class warfare that's been a staple of their politics?
What I can see coming with Obama, or Hillary or McCain is that the environmental activist, the Pro-UN crowd, the socialists, the university elites, the Hollywood Left and our entirely Pro Democrat MSM won't be able to restrain themselves, this is what they've been working toward for the past 80 years... getting their hands on the levers of ultimate power to cure what they see as the social injustice of Capitalism... just wait until the public sees all the taxes on American industry and energy imposed upon them and then watch as the wealth of America is redistributed to the rest of the world... the Global Poverty Act waiting in the wings will only be the start.. soon the Third World will be demanding money to solve their environmental and energy problems... guess who'll get to pay for that too?
After getting enmeshed by UN treaties subjugating our constitution to the World Court, environmental treaties etc., will the American Military become the enforcement arm for the UN... what other organization has the world-wide reach and power?
Will electing Obama result in the destruction of the Democrat party and the demise of Progressivism, will it lay the groundwork for the rise of a some glib right wing demagogue eager to play to the fears of a public watching society devolve into hedonism, debauchery, self indulgence and a complete absence of moral judgment?
All fun things to think about, but none of it will ever be debated by the candidates or brought up by the MSM since the only candidates running are all democrats of varying degree, McCain s doesn't even qualify a s a RINO anymore since his idiotic, pandering comments on global warming.

| The Democrats have been doing that?
1) I guess you never heard of the Southern Strategy.
2) Yes, there is class warfare. The Reps have been tilting the scale towards the upper crust for a long time resulting in a widening income gap. But nobody seems to object to it until what was lost is attempted to be recovered. Then, the wealthy get off their yachts and private planes and yell, "they're waging class warfare." |
