Telstar Logistics: Shipping Container Shortage Plagues American Exports

I'd say a shortage of containers is proof positive we're exporting more.

That's what happens when an economy slows...

People don't buy as much. The re think purchases instead of just throwing them in the cart at WallMart.

BINGO.

I wonder how many here have moved past raised eyebrows into shock and horror looking at prices in the grocery stores every week?

Do you shop enough to know how much things cost? (or cost 6 months ago or last year)

I hear it from my wife...

But we decided to burn our cornflakes...

As soon as the Dem's took both houses, the economy began to tank.

That is ridiculous, and I know you don't really believe that, but Cali has been lucky avoiding the depressive problems of the rest of the country many times. But now they're getting nailed.

Do you think it really costs a buck fifty more to move a 12oz box of fresh mushrooms that it did 6 months ago? They've gone from 2 bucks to 3.50, or do you think the stores are capitalizing on the "gas noise" and jacking more into their prices to ride on the back of shipping costs?

Since I've been on disability, I've had time to shop around and found the by going to Fred's and the Dollar store, alot of items ( paper towels, foil, canned vegetables and many other items of equal quality) can be purchased at a dramatically lower price. The supermarkets . as Surreal says, are just jacking up the prices to gouge every penny they can get out of the "Oil Scenario ". No matter how much the cost of shipping gets, they'll just write it off as operating expenses.

I think a lot of California salvation has been illegal aliens. Their construction layoffs don't show - they just pack up and go back to Mexico. Construction is the main bubble that popped.

Most of the money they earned was sent back home, so we don't see the drop in spending that would occur if they spent all of their money here.

Today's paper showed a butt load of home sales, so the foreclosures are being snapped up. A house close to me that was worth say 415K at the peak, sold to a nice young couple for 230K (I'm not sure of the actual price, but I'd say this is close). The market is readjusting at the bank's expense.

All is not as bad as the Democrats say it is. Our oil prices are a problem of our own making.
