Federal officials have confirmed what biologists have long thought: The Caribbean monk seal has gone the way of the dodo. Kyle Baker, a biologist for NOAA's Fisheries Service southeast region, said the species is the only seal to become extinct from human causes.

And then:Why must people brutly kill seals for their fur, and for what, to give women fur coats, scarfs or whatever they need, how can they sleep at night those killers to see the seals poor innocent faces and then bash them with club, and how can those women or men in some cases wear that don't they feel wrong, all i can say is KARMA what goes around comes around when you do something good, good will come back but when you do something bad, of course bad will come back. WHOEVER READS THIS I HOPE YOU AGREE WITH ME, YALL WHO KILL ARE SICK SICK SICK PEOPLE, AND YOU HAVE SOMETHING COMING TO YOU
Now, in 2008, they are finally considered extinct?

Wrong? Why would it be wrong? Whats wrong with killing? Killing been going on for Billions of years. and NOT just by man.

Whales and polar bears have to eat also, a helluvalot more than humans hunt. Ever wonder if they gag on all that "wasted" fur?
Those cute whiskered doe-eyed seals brutally kill and shred penguins(fish don't count 'cause they aint cute, of course). What's the problem with the natural food chain? Remember that one seal lion caught on tape that was nursed back to health and released back into the wild, only to be eaten by an orca in the harbor before it even made it out to sea? Bystander outcry and wailing was incredible. Trying to find it that one.
But I do give credit to the higher food chains for taking only that which they need to survive. They don't stock-pile food for hibernation.

Killing for fur IMO is wrong. Food is a different story...and as sad as it to know we will never see the creature again, it's the way of nature. Have to adapt...
