It's not the return of the cold war... it never stopped. It only was hidden from the public. Russia pretended to give in. Pretended to embrace democracy. The core of their government is run by the old KGB...

It's much easier to do things when you're not in the spotlight. |

I heard that Russia was eyeing the Ukraine now... and sending them not-so-veiled threats regarding NATO, and doing other things that would be otherwise contrary to Mother Russia's master plans...
As far as the proxy wars... just look to Iran and Iraq... Russia was involved with Iraq, and is involved with Iran. Russia has/is backing both of them against us. I even recall reading an interview with a russian dissident saying that the KGB guys taught a lot of their tactics to terrorists as a new proxy against the west. If i recall correctly, he said for instance they directly trained Zarqawi. And why not? We know they used proxy states against us throughout the 20th century. They figured... hey... we'll roll in, spread our commie propoganda, forcibly take over, and get their armies to fight the US. When that didn't work out entirely, they just decide - hey - remove the state... just use the proxy. Give them nothing to fight back against.
I'm not suggesting that they created radical islam... but that they saw it as a useful tool against the west, and enabled them... trained them and turned them on their targets. The source argued that they trained them in propoganda and related tactics. Turning atrocities into sympathies when there is retaliation.
Obviously radical islam exists on its own... since the muslim brotherhood - grandfather organization of modern terrorism - was founded long ago.
Russia has clearly been continuing its old tricks all along. The poisoning of Litvenko, and other threats (litvenko was just one of the most publicised). Siezing property. Did i hear correctly that they bombed the pipeline in Georgia, which bypasses Russia? Russia certainly wants ALL the oil in the Caspian... very interesting how this is turning out... |

I stray, however.
Don't be surprised when an accidental bombing of an U.S. aid mission occurs.
Putin knows he can punish us and get away with it 'cuz' we won't do anything about it except whine.

Don't forget that WE trained them and gave them tens or hundreds of millions of dollars cyphen.
The main reason they are against us is because stuff we've done against them in the past.

Plus the reason he didn't run for President was because he couldn't. In the Federation of Russia, President is not allowed more then 2 consecutive mandates in office. |
