| Family of 18 moves into their new home.
TLC has a show on that will be shown again tonight @1 that shows the entire family including the young children, working to create the home they will move into. In fact some have taken exception to the children working on the house.
While the Duggar family might not be rich, they seem to be getting some significant money from somewhere. It seems that corporate sponsorship is where its at these days. I mean, a 7000-square foot house doesnt just pay for itself.
Family of 18(soon to be 19)??! What are they trying to do? Start their own state or country? Along about the 3rd or 4th child MY wife would told me to wear a rubber or do without.
Ive got to ask you guys, how many children should a modern family living in the USA have? I mean 17 children is, IMO, very out of the ordinary, isnt it?

While anything above 6 seems to be weird, I don't see anything scandalous about having many kids as long as the parents have the money to support the family. |

This is not China, this is the USA.

Must have a lot of fields to plow, crops to harvest, chickens to raise and cows to milk on that 10-acre farm. Oh. Nevermind, they all sit around playing Guitar Hero or Rockstar. |

Didja bother to click the links, Toad? Methinks most of 'em are too young for guitar hero and the parents seem like the type that wouldn't let an evil gaming console into their god fearing home. Quote: |

| The right number, which is whatever the parents want and can afford.

At national estimated $250k expense per child thru high-school graduation we'll see. Maybe they'll sew their own clothes and churn butter like the Amish, but wait until teen-hood rebellion. |

Large families were once the norm, now they are the exception. If they can afford it, it isn't anybodies business how many kids a family has.

Large families may have been the norm but at any time in history people would have been impressed that this womans hoo hoo did not simply fall off by now.
PS as far as teen rebellion... that is not a problem because there are other kids to keep them in check. the older teens help the younger teens blah blah blah... the parents are not doing the child rearing completely any longer.
Having just had babby whooops (a surprise baby in my 40' s) I find that the older kids are quite the break from the demands of parenting. I have two daughters that can actually watch the little guy for a few hours while we escape. woooohooooo! |
