| Catholic bishops correct Pelosi on abortion Catholic bishops correct Pelosi on abortion - Yahoo! News Quote:
DENVER - Two prominent Roman Catholic archbishops say House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic Democrat, misstated church teachings about abortion in a recent television appearance, the latest sign that the U.S. Catholic hierarchy will not stay silent about politics this election year.
In an appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Pelosi said "doctors of the church" have not been able to define when life begins and that "over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy."
Washington Archbishop Donald Wuerl, citing the teaching responsibility entrusted to bishops, issued a statement late Monday that read, in part: "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable."
Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput and his auxiliary bishop, James Conley, said in a statement posted on the archdiocesan Web site: "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them."
Abortion "is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it," the statement continued.
| She done stepped in it now.

I love it when the pro-choice claim ties to Christianity.
I want one of them to show me where in the Bible God said that we get to chose if a baby lives or dies.

She was trying to lie about the position of the church to try to give Catholics cover to vote for a party the promotes abortion by saying "The question has never been settled". Well it has. And she knows it.

I've never heard the catholic church say any thing about abortion being okay. I truly hope that one day these democrats get what they deserve. Eventually the public will see them for what they are. |

Get knocked up, (squeeze out a kid) no complication at all.
I don't know about their them having dealt with this in the first century but the churces postion is in on uncertain terms, you may not interrupt the flow of sperm, or subsequent resultant life. Although I think individual priests get a little soft on the interrupting of sperm part but that is just my personal opinion.
So Ms Pelosi (you are either a moron or liar) in stating your characterization of the churches postion.
let me help you out though
Catholic church's postion:
1) No partial birth abortion
2) No Early term abortion
...a) no Ru486
...b) no morning after pill
3) No Barriers
...a)rubbers
...b) diaphrams
...c) female condoms
4) No birth control pills
5) No norplant
6) no sterilization male
7) no female sterilization
8) Generally no interference with anything to do with the act of copulation in it's natural form.
Acceptable birth control
1) Rythm is approved.
2) nope 1 was really it.
3) still no other option !
4) ummm nope not gonna happen!
I believe even sperm reduction methods such as taking care of business before having sex with a female is not allowed. (so perhaps that is grey to me)
Withdrawel I believe is even not allowed. (so that be it on the grey areas)
PS I am pro choice (perhaps even leaning toward pro abortion as a good thing) |

I don't consider abortion and birth control to be related. Most Catholics practice "common sense" birth control - the same as most non-Catholics. In spite of what the church says, most practice birth control.
Having said that, abortion is prevented by not getting pregnant in the first place, or by being married and willing to accept your responsibilities as a parent.
The root of the argument is one of ethics and morals, which are different between conservatives and liberals in lots of areas. |

The church doctrine forbids premarital sex, contraception and abortion. However, many Catholics don't want to deny themselves sex and be burdened with unwanted children, so they use contraception but still oppose abortion. That way they can play the virgin in the light but need no urging in the night.
Let's not even get into what priests have done with young boys that violated many church doctrines.

Although I am against abortion I understand why someone chooses it. The most sickening aspect is the political and medical acceptance of "late term abortion". At this point it is a fully formed fetus. In my eyes this is murder of a fetus and should not be allowed except as a life-saving necessity.

Nobody likes getting abortions. As Bill Clinton said, "abortions should be legal and rare." |
