BUSH & CHANEY to NOT Attend G.O.P. CONVENTION.

I was wondering how to state this Thread withoutout biasing it one way or another, but Avoid CONVENTION does not seem that far off.

Don't remember another time when the incumbant President wouldn't attend
his own Party's Convention.

Of course, the Democrats did manage to keep some Party members in the closet for the duration, so why not the Republicans?

Quote:
WASHINGTON - President Bush is skipping the Republican National Convention on Monday and will travel instead to Texas to meet with emergency workers and evacuees as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the Gulf Coast.
After a briefing Sunday from Federal Emergency Management Agency officials, Bush urged residents to heed local officials’ order to evacuate.
“Do not put yourselves in harm’s way or make rescue workers take unnecessary risks,” he said. “And know that the American people stand with you. We’ll face this emergency together.”

Bush said he had been assured that New Orleans’ levees are “stronger than they have ever been,” but that there is a “serious risk of significant flooding” across the Gulf Coast, especially in that city.

“The message to the people of the Gulf Coast is this storm is dangerous,” he said.
The White House had announced earlier Sunday that Bush and Vice President Cheney would skip the convention’s opening day. [Emphasis supplied]First lady Laura Bush still was scheduled to address delegates in St. Paul, Minn., on Monday, the opening day.
No Louisiana trip for now

Bush said he would travel instead to Austin, Texas, and San Antonio to meet with emergency workers and evacuees and check on preparations. [Emphasis supplied.] He said that for now he would not go to New Orleans. “I do not want my visit to impede in any way the response of our emergency personnel,” Bush said. “I hope to be able to get to Louisiana as soon as conditions permit.”

SNIPPED

The president spoke after his Homeland Security chief warned that Gustav could prove more challenging than Katrina and the nation’s disaster response coordinator worried about New Orleans’ fragile levees.

SNIPPED

In a telephone call to New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Bush said he was “checking in and getting ready to go through this again with him,” spokeswoman Dana Perino said. Nagin told Bush the forecast did not look good, but that he was pleased so far with the coordination with the federal government.

SNIPPED

The White House was working on possible alternatives that would allow Bush to make a speech at the convention, Perino said.

[ AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! --DOOOOG ]

But Cheney is to leave Tuesday on a four-country trip that includes a stop in Georgia. [Emphasis supplied]

Stronger than ever?
Only about 20% of them have been repaired, according to the guy being interviewed on CNN- then he went on to say it would be another 2 years to finish them.
Hmmm.. 20% done in 3 years and he is saying the other 80% will be done in 2? I find that projected date hard to believe.

Bush & Co are doing the right thing, at least in practice. Depending on the track of the storm, Gustav could be just as devastating as Katrina. They need to be focused on the storm and its aftermath and not on politics. Granted, the timing sucks, but those are the breaks. McCain probably is just as glad they won't be there, as he wants to distance himself from them, so it's a win-win situation for all, except the poor folks in Nawlins.

The local government around there had better have a decent plan in place this time. Bush is making the right move here. He is making the rounds down here, and making sure every thing is being taken care of.

McBush, ever since Gustuv was sighted, had the Hopi Indians doing a 24/7 rain dance so that Bush and Chenny would have a verifiable excuse to miss the Big Show and keep their inept mouths shut.
His wish came true.

Talking
Monitoring GUSTAV !

Maybe Chaney didn't know the dates of the G.O.P. Convention, so he planned a trip out of the Country -- for the duration.

Kinda embarrassing that the VP can't attend his Party's Convention, don't you think?

Well that's pubic relations for you !

Snip

DOOOOG
I almost feel sorry for Bush and Chaney,
Eight tears in office and no tributes.
Instead one is sent on a foreign trip, while the other got lucky enought to have an excuse not to attend except tp tell what was done about Gustuv.
Sad ending,,

This is good news. McCain needs to get as far away as he possibly can from GWB and his group.

No matter the distance...Blood Brothers are ALWAYS Blood Brothers. McBush is just putting on a " Cane & Abel" act. But under the covers there still close and basking in each other's body heat.
