Manmade CO2 Driven Climate Change

This poll has one purpose: to try to get to the heart of why people refuse to accept what science has been saying, and the media has been reporting, about climate change being linked to man made CO2.

I'm not interested in a global warming debate and I will delete any posts that start debating the science. This isn't a debate about whether or not the warming is happening, whether or not it's man made or natural, or whether or not it's a problem for us.

I am only interested in using this thread to understand exactly and expressly why each individual here refuses to accept the science. Pick the poll response that best fits, or add your own, but don't go off on tangents - there are other threads at techimo for debates.

Tough choices Scott . . .

I would have to go with a combination of first and last.

While I totally disagree that climate change is wholly because of man, I can't say that man is partially to blame either. I DO believe that man has had an effect on the climate, but how much I can't say. At the same time, I'm not sure man can have any real effect on the climate, in what we could do in the next 10-20 years.

As for history, we can see that there has been and chances are, will continue to be cycles in the earths climate. Whether we are in a normal climate change or one we caused remains to be seen.

We must also be careful in how we implement our policies to effect change, or we may end up causing more change in a way we don't want. (Example is the CFC findings.)

For me, it's about the Sun: The Sun is a hell of a lot bigger an influence then Mankind, and it's arrogant for man to think he has the power to change it.

The science on this is very overwhelming, and I think anyone would be hard pressed not to agree that climate change is due at least in part to man. I do not agree with the doomsday scenarios that some are painting. I tend to think that these pictures are painted for political and economic gain, not for actual planetary improvement. That said, I applaud anything that gets us away from foreign oil and reduces smog, carcinogens, and pollutants. Thus, I favor alternative energy. The problem is implementing these programs without having the government foot the bill on stupid ideas like ethanol.

It's all bullshit. The earth cycles and so does the sun. The lefties are playing on peoples' emotions with this ridiculousness...all in the name of gaining more control over what you do, how you do it, when you do it, and how much of it you do. All about power, people.

The weather changes every day.

The Climate changes too.

I posted this in your other thread, Scott.

I think all of the volcanoes on this planet pollute more than we do.

I have no problem with reducing emissions, but when they are trying to force the carbon credits system that really just goes to the pockets of the climate change people, that’s when it gets too far.

I would like to point something out to you, Scott.

1970’s “The earth is getting cooler, global cooling”
1990’s “The earth is getting hotter, global warming”
2000’s “Record winters, record summers, CLIMATE CHANGE”

Climate change is how they are covering all of their bases, before they had the problem where a record winter would hurt the argument of global warming, and a record summer would hurt any arguments about global cooling.

Now, they can just say climate change and they have everything covered.

Yes, we have climate change, just like the weather changes. Remember the earth is not in an isolated test tube, it is in a very violent universe, in orbit of a star that has over three hundred thousand times the mass of our little earth, I think the entire solarsystem has it's own weather as well and it probably affects us, and it obviously completely out of our control.

The fact that is our planet is actually quite peaceful when compared to the rest of the solarsystem.

Remember when the continents split up? Climate changed caused that too, but it obviously wasn't the pollution from our cars that caused it, and what about all of the "ice ages"? That's climate change too, but not of our doing.

So yes, I believe in Climate change.

Does man have an impact on it? Maybe.

By 0.001%.

Can we do something about Climate change in general? Not really.

Maybe when al-gore invents the anti-hurricane device we might just be able to affect climate change.
Even Carlin agrees.

While I do agree that we need to treat our planet with more respect (therefore our selves) Use cleaner sources of power, less landfill and many other ways of environmental respect, all it takes is one huge eruption to do more damage than humans have ever done. Call me paranoid but I wonder if it would be possible to scrub (for want of a better word) our atmosphere of pollutants, or am I just dreaming ?

Dan Gilbert may be of some help Scott. I bumped into this lecture on Friday.

Why haven’t we rallied our collective power to solve global warning?

There is a ton of evidence showing it is not man-made global warming. did we contribute to it...maybe, a very slight amount. Not enough that we should be worried about OUR impact. The sun is the most important factor.

Scott, I read from your lasts post that you would like us to have a middle ground.

I have one.

1. I would like to see development of alternative, cleaner fuels for vehicles.
- I'm for:
Clean Coal
Nuclear
Natural Gas
Geothermal
Hydroelectric
Wind Power
Solar Energy
Fossil Fuels (We must face the fact that we will ALWAYS need oil, we use oil for lots of things OTHER than fuel for our cars! Gasoline was originally a waste product)
Hamster Wheels.

2. I see no problem with asking companies to reduce pollution, giving them tax incentives to be cleaner.

Here's what I do not want:

1. Forcing everyday people to BUY "carbon credits".
2. Rationing "carbon emissions" on people or corporations.
3. Forcing companies in the US to offset their "pollution" by buying carbon credits, this will push industry into countries that do not force this!

The biggest gripe I have with the climate change people is them trying to force everyone to buy carbon credits, they are trying to create a market for something thats utterly worthless. They want to create something that they can pull out of their asses and sell for more than gold. It's a scammers wet dream.

They claim that the money goes to R&D, it's all bullshit, it lines the pockets of everyone that pushes climate change, and people are suckers.

I'm sorry Johnny, I can't take you to school today because I don't have enough money for carbon credits.

But mommy, you can buy the gas?

No Johnny, The carbon police will send us to jail if we drive without our carbon papers.
