| If you were watching someone commit suicide on a 'net camera
Would you encourage him/her to do it? Quote:
A 19-year-old man has committed suicide live on the internet encouraged by others who were watching, according to reports.
The teenager, named as Abraham K Biggs, from Broward County, Florida, took an overdose of pills while broadcasting himself on Justin.tv, a live video streaming website.
On a chat forum he told others he was going to commit suicide and posted a suicide note on another forum before taking the pills and turning on his webcam.
The 19-year-old lay on his bed and only after several hours of no movement did others begin to take him seriously. With the video still running, forum members managed to contact the local police who eventually broke down the door, found the body and switched off the camera. Up to 1,500 people were viewing the feed, according to one report.

Mr Biggs then posted his suicide note, where he said he had hurt other people and hated himself for being a failure. As he lay motionless on the bed after taking the pills, many forum members continued to insult him, believing that it was staged.

What would you do?

Apparently this wasn't the first, second, third or fourth time he has claimed to "killing himself" and pretty much a lot of people thought he was trolling. |

| How many times does a person NEED to cry for help before someone notices? Out of curiosity, what would you have done GZ3 egged him on as those others did? Reported the attempt? Ignored him?
Many of them removed their comments AFTER they found out he had actually killed himself.

I don't see the internet as the best place to get help for personal issues (complaining on a forum for body builders? Come on now). I'm sure there was a hot line he could of called. Honestly i see suicide as the most selfish thing a person can do. It shows that all that person cares about is his/herself.
I wouldn't have egged him on (personally i think that is a really stupid question to ask), but there are so many people who keeps calling wolf, eventually you just ignore them. I bet if you go back into the other threads or his pms you will find people who gave him advice to seek help. He chose not too and end his life, am i supposed to feel sorry for him all because life is hard and he couldn't handle it?
The internet is not a nice place at all. There are no rules and it brings out the worst side of people as they don't have to face someone and the consequences of their actions in most case. The people who egged him on are sick and hope they feel guilty for what they did. However spend some time on any of the chans websites and you will get an eye opener on how many assholes there is on the internet. |

Sad.
I would not have egged him on, however, I would not have thought of reporting it.... i would have assumed idle threat with a side order of who the hell do your report a nameless nutcase in cyberspace to. |

- I find his personal details through E-detectivery, I figure out his name and number and location.
- Personal details posted on Misc. I request people to call the cops because I live in India and had no way to make International calls all by myself.
- People tell me he's a troll and nobody calls. Staberella especially is quite a huge cynic and says that he wasn't going to die on that kind of drugs, she insists nothing is going to happen and that people should just gtfo of the thread. - I send an email to Miami Police on their official email on their website, Email not functioning!
- I call Miami Police from my dad's phone and speak to at least three cops and one person from the 911 line (whatever it is) for over 8 minutes about the situation, the people there do not take the case seriously and tell me to call the sheriff of his county, and give me the sheriff's number even after I told them I was speaking from a different country and that this was an emergency.
- I post the sheriff's number on the Misc. thread
- People tell me to quit worrying and that they're 100% sure its a loop and he's just fraudin'
-jjlee138 (Rep this dude) calls the Broward County Sheriff's office and speaks to them about the situation along with a couple of other people. By the time I called, it turns out 3 people had already called them about it.
- People wait for the cops to bust in on the JTV cam.
- Some people start thinking nobody called the cops, at least 5 more people call the cops, they were told the cops were on it
- 25 minutes after the first call to the cops, the cops bust in. They cover the webcam
- People speculating whether he's dead or not
- At this point of time a lot of people start deleting/editing their posts everywhere. PM me for the original thread content.
- Friends post messages on his myspace worried about him, no response from him.
- His best friend posts a thread on the Misc. and informs the people that he's dead.
- Some people still think its a bluff

I'm the kind of person that I would have kept trying to help him no matter how many times he cried wolf... Having had a past where I had contemplated suicide, I have some knowledge of what it is like. If something were to happen on here (or anywhere I found online) I would contact the mods who may have access to his email, ip, or anything else to possibly ID him in real life, then I would probably call my aunt's boyfriend who is a cop and ask if he knew anyway to track him down/help him.
As to suicide: It absolutely is a very selfish thing to do, especially doing it the way he did... And it sucks... If anyone wants to talk more about it or about my experiences with it, please PM me as I am always willing to talk, especially for those who don't understand or those who know the feeling and want to know the solution.
