| The F word (under-utilized or horrible utterance.)
I personally avoid the use of this word around my kids and try and reserve it for a few select venues.
However, I do not find the word offensive. I almost would like to see this word freed because it has almost lost it's curse like meaning.
so should we free the F word or banish it to non existance? |

What about the B-word, and the N-word? Shouldnt we allow them to be said as well? Especially around children to make sure they know how we feel?
Before I went into the Navy, I hardly cussed at all. After I got out of the Navy I simply cannot stop the occasional bad utterance from escaping my lips, and its been nearly 20 years. Its a bad habit that can be prevented by NOT getting into the habit.

It should be more widely accepted, but people who don't use discretion when saying it - or other "bad" words - should expect some admonition. Depending who I'm around, I can curse like a drunken sailor or be as proper as an English schoolboy.
p.s. I'd like to know, Gomer, how you seemingly have myriad quotes on demand all the time. |

I use it for myself when I know I already created a thought once... and for others when I want to make them look silly =)
What'd you think my trick was? Bookmarks?
'course, regarding the steel trap... I lose my keys 3-4 times a day. I attribute that to several concussions. One set was gone for a month, I found it for a day and it is gone again for over a month. Last seen in the living room. My house is not cluttered, they just disappear.
I'd still whomp you at Jeopardy though! Something about reading things locks it into my mind somewhere.
Anyway... back to the swears...
The words shit and fuck, IMO, can convey more feelings, thoughts, actions, etc. than practically any other words in our language. Maybe that's why they're considered "lazy". But I view efficiency as a virtue!

A perfect example...
"Where are my keys?" Only conveys that I have lost them.
"Where the fuck are my keys?" Conveys both that I have lost them and that I am frustrated! Or better yet, "Where are my fucking keys?" |

I think in the proper venue they're fine
forums are not one of them
many people have kids that read forums, and forums like these that are in general have a very good intent but some people like to use the word too much in public.
around friends, co-workers who cares? in a public venue where smaller children may read/hear the lanuage it is inappropriate.
I dont know who decided that F was going to list this as a bad word, considering its extreme flexibility.. but its done, and lets face it .. it shouldn't be used around kids
There was a wav (yes before mp3's) file I had years ago that described the words flexibility, very funny |

Pleeeze, they did not call me WTF e-man because I like Worldwide Travel and Fun when I was in for nothing.
I did have to reallly tone it down after a few conference room meeting as a civilian. I reckon F**k No is not a good short and concise answer.
Now I have to remember the word just to say it. Otherwise fudge, geeze naturally comes out now.
