Wait a minute-- | The Union said the same thing when Hormel ran into trouble years ago . . . and when Hormel opened the books, the union claimed that they were "cooked". The union went on strike, Hormel hired and bussed in laid-off iron mine workers. The new workers went to work for Hormel at a reduced wage and a promise of raises when Hormel was back in the black. 3 years later, the workers were making more than the union workers wanted and the union wanted back in . . . didn't go over well for the union.

The House/Senate will vote again on the issue in January when a majority of Democraps (I spelled that correctly) will be in power. Let's hope that GM, and Chrysler have enough cash until then. Donald Trump came up with an idea of letting them go into Chapter 11 prior to the loan/bailout. I don't know what that will/will not do for the companies. Ford has enough liquidity to hold them for a while, but just wanted cash just in case. Let's see what happens. |

Major restructuring has got to happen, which is gonna be a bit painful. The UAW workers are going need to make concessions or face unemployment. |

The program started in 1984 as something both the United Auto Workers and their employers supported to promote factory automation and innovation, according to labor and industry experts. link | It's not as ridiculous as you think and it only reflects 1,400 workers. Read the link. In any case, that's what the industry negotiated in good faith and one should live up to one's word.Quote:

What I object to is, a month ago Washington gave a bailout to the financial institutions and did not ask a single question or make any conditions on Wall Street, who pay their people much more than auto companies. Now, the auto industry asks for a fraction of what Wall Street got and the Senate wants it to be carried on the backs of the people who work on the line.
The fact is that foreign makers have an advantage since they have new plants and don't have any retirees.

One could also make the argument that these Southern Republicans are acting as agents for the foreign companies doing business in their states.
