I was reading an article in a magazine about this I think its was times, but that article said that part of the problem was how complex they made these cars which increased the price by almost 300% in the past 20 years. Safe to say it was pretty convincing, and I heard a few weeks ago that GM and Chrysler are going to merge if GM didn't get the bail out (which they didn't).
In the end I blame it on human greed and inflation, and now we are paying for it. |

I think that article was BS.
Sure, complexity has increased and it would have caused some cost increase, but just look at anything in the electronics field. Every few years complexity doubles and yet prices have not really changed, if anything they have gone down. |

Certainly. Blame the UAW for it's greed and upper management for continuing to accept the UAW's terms. |

Most UAW workers are making $20 an hour I make $16 an hour and I get by pretty good.
Now if I can survive very comfortably on $16 an hour why can't a UAW worker? I know that they pay income tax and union fees, but I'm a member of kroger's union and I pay fees as well and still live pretty good. |

I think the problem is overhead. I was overhearing some others talking about it yesterday and he said that 6 guys in his church (or maybe it was a friend of his?) are currently employed by one of those companies full time, but their job was no longer needed and since they could not (or just were not) be fired they go to work every day with a bunch of other guys and just sit in a room to do whatever they'd like all day (play games, etc). |

$ 70.00 an hour is the "loaded wage" - the total cost of an hour including benefits, employer SSA, and retirement. In other words every burden payed by the employer, but not by the employee.
