| Mass migrations and war: Dire climate scenario Mass migrations and war: Dire climate scenario Quote:
CAPE TOWN, South Africa – If we don't deal with climate change decisively, "what we're talking about then is extended world war," the eminent economist said. His audience Saturday, small and elite, had been stranded here by bad weather and were talking climate. They couldn't do much about the one, but the other was squarely in their hands. And so, Lord Nicholas Stern was telling them, was the potential for mass migrations setting off mass conflict.
| Quote:
But if negotiators falter, if emissions reductions are not made soon and deep, the severe climate shifts and sea-level rises projected by scientists would be "disastrous."
It would "transform where people can live," Stern said. "People would move on a massive scale. Hundreds of millions, probably billions of people would have to move if you talk about 4-, 5-, 6-degree increases" — 7 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit. And that would mean extended global conflict, "because there's no way the world can handle that kind of population move in the time period in which it would take place." | The "doom and gloom" crowd strikes again. When all else fails, scare them into compliance. Quote: |
In the face of such threats, "the rich countries have to give us a helping hand," the African minister said.
| The African minister summed it up succinctly. It's all about the money.

Weather patterns (or climate change) are at the heart of the Darfur crisis. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here, other than to ridicule people who think ahead.

If AR did a little more, strike that, a lot more reading on the subject he might gain an idea of what Stern is talking about. Stern is right in what he said.

Are you really trying to contend that the weather is causing a war? I guess we should just forget about the corrupt government of Sudan which has systematically tried to wipe out the Fur, Zaghaha, and Masalit peoples. I guess we should blame the rape of thousands of women on the lack of rain. Quote: |
Stern is right in what he said.
| Stern is a pipe dreaming fool. The man believes we can totally switch over world-wide to zero carbon electricity and road transport by 2050. In theory, sure, but reality gives him the middle finger and says "hell no."

And it is your version of reality that is threatening to make things worse than they will already be. Maybe you could benefit from reading some of the summaries of the IPCC reports Tony. |

It doesn't show that you understood much of what you've read thus far. Keep reading. Maybe do a bit of googling for "climate change security". Even add "national" before the word "security". |

Will you quit telling me what I do and do not know or understand about issues I post about. It's very annoying beemer and really shows what little you know about me. |

I read what you type and use that as an indicator of what you know. Once you start posting like an informed person on the topic of climate change you'll notice my change of tone. |

I have nothing to prove to you beemer. Nor do I care to. . . |
